Hi there, Friends! I know many of you share my fondness for dollar store hacks so when I browse the aisles at Dollar Tree, I try to imagine different ways I might recreate my finds like this rustic pumpkin I crafted from one of their mini pillows...
Today I'll show you how I transformed this textured pillow into a cozy rustic pumpkin!
But first, remember those twiggy stems of mini pumpkins I used to create my wreath? Here's a great way to use the leftovers--create a pumpkin stem and curly vines!
Since I reused the stems from the mini pumpkins and even the polyester stuffing from the pillow, it only cost $1 to make this whimsical pumpkin! With a bare minimum of sewing, you can follow the instructions below to create your own textured pumpkin. Here are a few more tips for clarification: Only the top seam of the pillow needs to be cut open. Once the stuffing is removed and you turn it inside out, you will stitch the bottom corners of the pillow at an angle to create more of a pumpkin shape, as displayed in square #4.
I find it relaxing to sew by hand while I am streaming my favorite shows so I used a needle and thread to hand baste the top edge to form the pumpkin's gathered top. Also, I added rice to weight the bottom and create a fuller pumpkin but you could create a less plump version by reusing the stuffing only. Don't forget to raid your craft stash for stems, leaves, or other embellishments!
