Happy Tuesday, Friends! It's time for another Creative Craft Blog Hop hosted this month by Sara from Birdz of a Feather. If you've been slow to part with linens or other salvaged fabric that has seen better days, I've got just the craft for you! I'll show you how to cover outdoor cushions--no sewing required
Welcome! If you hopped over after visiting Carol from Bluesky at Home, isn't her lamp project lovely? Here's a quick before and after of the outdoor chaise cushions I bought on clearance years ago. To say they had become threadbare would be an understatement--the fabric was literally unraveling from the cushions! However, the actual cushions were in good condition other than being dirty and I already had the perfect salvaged fabric in mind. Can you guess how it was previously used? 😉
First, I vacuumed the cushions thoroughly and sprayed them with homemade essential oil spray. Next, I laid the cushions on the fabric, literally folding it across the back and corners like wrapping a present. Last, instead of sewing, I decided to hot glue the edges and corners. I covered three cushions on my driveway in a fraction of the time it would have taken me to sew them!
I am happy to report that after recovering these before the holidays in anticipation of guests, they've held up beautifully through the winter months, as you can see from the photos. Did you guess the source of my salvaged fabric? They were originally cherished curtains--the fabric had some fading from years in the sunlight that was noticeable when hanging in the windows. However, the lovely pattern and sturdy cotton fabric was just too pretty to toss. I was able to strategically fold the faded portions toward the back sides of the cushions and the finished results were even better than I expected! Not bad for free cushions--what do you think? (See how I upcycled the thrift store pillow below, here!)
I'm so glad you stopped by today! Next up, our hostess Sara from Birdz of a Feather shares her stylish crafted Celtic knot necklace. Then be sure to visit the rest of today's featured bloggers for more crafty inspiration!

ReplyDeleteThe makeover on the cushion was a huge success. I love how it turned out and the Home Tweet Home pillow was the cherry on top. Super cute Cecilia.
ReplyDeleteI never would have thought your outdoor cushions were covered with curtains, Cecilia! What a great idea - and no sew, too! They look perfect and pretty on your chaise lounge!
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is so perfect for your outdoor space Cecilia; so pretty and a brilliant idea to repurpose it for cushion covers!
ReplyDeleteCecilia, we think alike. I love the idea of repurposing a cushion with fabric you have on hand and giving it another life. Good for you for recycling and reusing.
