Dr. Seuss and Children's Book Week

Hi there, Friends! Today is the first day of Children's Book Week, which was established in 1919 and is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. As a homeschool mom, I had the privilege of teaching all three of my children to read. I'm convinced that instilling a love for books and reading in our children is the best thing we can do to nurture a passion for learning. Kids of all ages adore Dr. Seuss and while he is known for his nonsensical rhymes, I admire the life lessons found within the pages of his books...

Our family is big on trips to the library. I took my kids weekly from the time they were toddlers and now it makes me happy that Youngest Daughter carries on the tradition with Ginger Grand. Of course, it goes hand in hand with having books in the home.  GG has full bookshelves at home and I keep a selection at my house too. We read together when he visits and often he will ask me to read to him during our Face Time chats.  Books can be expensive so I wanted to let you know about a great deal I'm promoting. You know I'm always looking for a bargain and you may have noticed the cute little Dr. Seuss banners on my blog's sidebar.  You can't beat 4 books for less than $5 and free shipping. Then, after the introductory special, the books that will arrive monthly still cost less than $5 per hardcover edition! I've checked and there is no minimum purchase requirement. Plus, membership can be cancelled at any time, so it really is risk free. It would make a wonderful gift for any child in your life or for a new mom. Just click on the image below or on the blog sidebar.

Children's Book Week runs today through May 8.  Did you know Dr. Seuss published more than 60 children's books?

  1. Looks like a really good deal. So important to teach children to read and appreciate books. Too many electronic distraction now and I am sure some children are not introduced to books as they should be.

  3. I know that Dr. Seuss also had 2 other pen names: Theo LeSeig (Geisel spelled backwards) and Theodore Geisel. He pronounced Seuss as Soice like voice.
