Hi Friends! When I decided to add borders to some small rose bushes near my fence, I wanted to use recycled materials and since I have several roses, decided to try a few different ideas. I often see sweet little china plates for next to nothing and as I've mentioned before, I am a pushover for pretty dishes. I chose mostly floral patterns and I am really pleased with the results. In fact, this border turned out to be my favorite--it makes me think of an English cottage and having tea in the garden!

Another option is a variation on a pin I'd seen using wine bottles. I actually tried them first but they were too tall next to my roses, so a friend was kind enough to save green beer bottles for me. I started this border after a good rain which made it easier to push the bottles into my rocky soil. I continued adding bottles as I received them, each time soaking the area first. I love how the sunlight shines through the green glass.
For the last border, I collected tiny terracotta flower pots alternating various sizes.
Three different borders, each repurposing thrift finds or freebies--which is your favorite?
I love the variation. Perfect little vignettes throughout your garden. I'm probably partial to the bottle border because of three color.
ReplyDeleteCecilia ... all the borders look pretty ... I guess I like the terracotta flower pots best or maybe the bottles because they will glow when the sun hits them. Great job on all three.
