$10 Upcycle: Utility Shelf to Potting Stand!

Happy Wednesday Friends! You know the expression Invention is born out of necessity? Well since the potting stand outside my back door literally started to sink, I figured replacing it was necessary! I knew it was old but even though I walked past it daily, had not realized the wood was rotting--until it was caving in! Enter today's project...

Friday's Find: Juliet Gets an Apron!

Thank God it's thrifty Friday, y'all--I am so glad you stopped by!  Today's feature combines one of my previous thrift store treaures with a recent yard sale find.  Do you remember my charming dress form Juliet? She was 50% off at my favorite thrift store and ever since has cheerfully dressed up my living room corner.  Depending on my whim, she has served as a lamp and even Christmas decor.  When I found this pretty floral Vintage apron at a yard sale and got it home, I knew it would look fabulous on my girl Juliet--who doesn't love to play dress up?!

Summertime: Tablescape

Greetings Friends! Today's Summertime feature is one for indoors. As temperatures rise don't you just want to keep everything from your clothes to your decor light and breezy? That works for me and is also the inspiration for my seasonal tablescape--white crisp cotton and cheerful pops of color, all from my collection of thrifted treasures.  I will keep this fresh setting through the summer and Labor Day. Follow along for inspiration for your next jaunt to the thrift store...

Friday's Find: St. Patrick's Day and An Irish Blessing!

Greetings fellow thrifters! It's thrifty Friday and you don't have to be Irish to appreciate these lucky finds--each under $1!  In fact, this festive shamrock garland was only .25.  The clover has held a special place in my heart ever since I learned that St. Patrick used it as a teaching symbol for the Holy Trinity; one clover: three leaves as in one God: three persons.  I love that!

Friday's Find: Superheroes!

Thank God it's thrifty Friday, Friends! It's that time of year again--in a few weeks, there will be a host of superheroes and princesses wandering our streets! Did you know thrift stores are THE best place to find costumes? Whether you are dressing up yourself, hunting for pirate paraphernalia, or stocking a dress up chest, start by hunting yard sales and browsing thrift stores.  The Grand, who has been known to spontaneously don a Thor mask he got from his Auntie, is into superheroes in a big way, so much so that I have plans to make him a SH quilt for Christmas--but that 's another post....

Friday's Find: Vintage Lazy Susan

TGITF--Two treasures today from two different thrift stores and both bargains!  I have never seen a Lazy Susan like this before but I love the bright, kitschy pattern. As you may know, I am partial to unique vintage ware and it is right at home in my kitchen!

Friday's Find: Denim Button Down!

Thank God it's thrifty Friday, Friends! I have always had a penchant for denim, especially this time of year when we anticipate, or here in the South, at least hope for cooler weather. A versatile denim button down has been on my list all summer.  Since I am short, and not long waisted, I needed something semi-fitted.  I even tried on a few at the mall but didn't like any enough to pay close to $30.  I just wasn't able to find the one I pictured in my mind...until today!

Friday's Find: Vintage Pyrex

It's Friday and as you know my favorite day to thrift--TGITF! (Thank God it's thrifty Friday!) I went to several yard sales and a few thrift stores, but it was at an estate sale that I found today's treasure.  This Vintage Butterfly Gold Pyrex casserole is the 2.5 quart size and harder to come

by than the 1.5 quart size I usually see.  Often these pretty casseroles may have damaged or even missing lids.  As it happens, I don't have any of these larger Pyrex, so when I saw this one in mint condition and also a bargain, of course I grabbed it!

Friday's Find: Vintage Tablecloths!

Today's feature is this cheery Vintage table cloth from my favorite thrift store.  I adore these pretty little cloths and change them out often on my kitchen table. Whether they are crisp cotton and near perfect like this one, or show a little more wear, I love their bright colors and charm.  I usually unfold them or remove them from the hanger for closer inspection to make sure there aren't any holes or stains that are deal breakers.  If you see a bargain, grab it--these lovelies can run over $100 at antique shops!

August Show and Tell

Greetings Friends! It's Show and Tell--my chance to brag on your divine finds!

Stacy bought this 5 piece custom made sectional set from an estate sale.  It looks brand new and is still wrapped in plastic awaiting the completion of their new home.  Like any diligent thrifter she decided to research the brand name and found out she saved thousands, yes, I said THOUSANDS of dollars! Cha-ching! This is how to shop for furniture people!

Happy Thoughts Family Gallery Wall

Greetings Friends! This is my "happy thoughts" wall, one of the first things I see when I wake up in the morning. Actually, you can tell a lot about what is important to me just by looking at it. While I  treasure photos  throughout my home, these are special tokens of my children and family...

Friday's Find: Vintage Jewelry!

Thank God it's thrifty Friday, Friends! Today's treasure is shiny and sparkly and makes me smile...Vintage jewelry! This elegant rhinestone necklace was tucked inside the display case of a little church affiliated thrift store I discovered over twenty years ago when I was new to the community. It is currently one of my weekly stops with its user friendly jewelry counter equipped with a mirror and helpful volunteer who pulls out requested pieces and waits patiently as they are tried and decisions are made.  Like many Vintage pieces, this necklace offers timeless style and not one stone is missing. It lays beautifully and is absolutely gorgeous on.  For the grand sum of $2.35, that's a lot of bling for my buck-- not to mention, the volunteers gingerly wrapped each piece in tissue as though they were handling diamonds!

Friday's Find: Fire-King Primrose!

After making a long list of sales to attend, I started my morning in anticipation.  I attended an estate sale, six yard sales and a thrift store without any luck.  I was starting to think I might go home empty handed but still had a few more stores to try.  At my last stop I struck gold--or should I say primroses!  Fire-King Primrose was manufactured only from 1960-1962.  It is a pretty little floral pattern set against white milky glass.  About a year ago,  I bought two teacups with saucers and some baking dishes for a great price at an estate sale.  However, I never purchased any plates because the only time I have seen them, the price was too high.  Today I found two for 50% off-- perseverance is a virtue when thrifting!

Rings Around the Rosies: 3 Repurposed Garden Borders

Hi Friends! When I decided to add borders to some small rose bushes near my fence,  I wanted to use recycled materials and since I have several roses, decided to try a few different ideas. I often see sweet little china plates for next to nothing and as I've mentioned before, I am a pushover for pretty dishes.  I chose mostly floral patterns and I am really pleased with the results. In fact, this border turned out to be my favorite--it makes me think of an English cottage and having tea in the garden!

July Show and Tell

Happy Wednesday Friends!  Need a little mid-week inspiration?
I asked my resourceful blog members to share some of their recent finds and upcycled projects and I'm sharing the love...

When her daughter downsized for a move, Stacy salvaged this wine rack and gave its natural wood a makeover.   She mixed a chalk paint recipe from Pinterest using inexpensive flat paint and unsanded grout. She finished  by brushing on dark stain, wiping it off and then setting the finish with wax. The results speak for themselves--cheers to her charming barn red transformation!

Mirror, Mirror....On My Fence

Once upon a time there was a thrifty lady who loved to hunt for unexpected treasures...

I may not have slayed any dragons in my time, but I am always on the quest for a good bargain! My latest mission: mirrors for my garden. I have a very long cedar fence and after hanging a few of my bargain finds and enjoying their reflection of the garden, decided I would continue adding to the collection as I found them. These featured are just past the gate's entrance, setting the fairy tale mood I aim to capture at The Secret Garden...
