Happy Tuesday, Friends! Today I'm excited to be joining the Easter Celebrations blog hop hosted by Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home. Just in time for Easter, I'm sharing how to elevate simple cake mix cupcakes with a decadent buttercream frosting and a little touch of lavender...
If you hopped over after visiting Shelley from Calypso in the Country, welcome! Isn't her Easter decor lovely? Last month I shared my cottagecore spring home tour featuring a few Easter accents...
...including my upcycled floral cross.
We've finally been having spring weather, so I featured a Rabbits and Roses spring garden tea.
Just last week, I shared spring and Easter decor from my vintage kitchen.
If you've seen a few of my recipe posts, you know I love pairing chocolate and lavender. Previously, I've shared my recipe for homemade lavender chocolate brownies.
I'm also a big fan of cake mix recipes like my dark chocolate candy bar donuts.
Recently, I elevated a boxed cake mix with a few drops of lavender essential oil. Ready to make your own? Start by preparing your favorite chocolate cake mix. (I use Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge.) Next, carefully add a few drops of food grade lavender essential oil. TIP: More is less when it comes to lavender--use it sparingly to avoid a soapy flavor! Also, I don't recommend adding essential oil to the frosting--you want just a hint of lavender in the cupcakes.
Then, while your cupcakes are baking, prepare the chocolate buttercream frosting.
Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Melt one stick of butter. Stir in 2/3 cup of cocoa. Alternately add 3 cups powdered sugar and 1/3 cup milk. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla. (If needed, gradually add small amounts of milk for desired consistency.) Spoon frosting into a small piping bottle.
Last, allow cupcakes to cool completely before piping frosting and adding sprinkles.

I prefer mini cupcakes because they are the perfect bite sized frosting-to-cake ratio! 😉
Have a blessed Easter and thanks so much for stopping by! Next up is Laura from Decor to Adore--you won't want to miss her sweet spring craft!

What a fun idea, adding lavendert to your baked goods and I love how you're serving them on your pretty cakestand with the chocolate bunny.
ReplyDeleteThese cakes look almost too good to eat, Cecilia! I have never had lavender and chocolate together so I'm excited to try your recipe. I also can't wait to check out your piping bottle - that is so cool. I've always used the old school sleeves with a cake tip and they are so messy. Your way seems so much easier! Thanks for the heads up. Sending you lots of hugs for a happy Easter and spring season, CoCo
ReplyDeleteThere are so many amazing chocolate lavender goodies for Easter here Cecilia. I can't even pick which dessert I want to try first. I do have a thing for donuts though. What a delicious post. Happy Easter!

ReplyDeleteI have never had anything with Lavender in it so I'm excited to try this. My kids love the lavender lemonade so I bet they'll approve of these yummies too. Hope you have a wonderful Easter!
ReplyDeleteI'm such a chocoholic, your cupcakes look absolutely scrumptious. I've never used lavender when cooking but this really intrigues me. I just came from Cindy's Citrus Fluff Cake, so now I'm wanting chocolate too. Have a wonderful Easter week, Cecilia!!
ReplyDeleteChocolate and lavender...yes please! This sounds wonderful. Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteCecilia, what a cute chocolate bunny. Nothing better than chocolate cupcakes. All your decorations are so pretty, but the cupcakes take the cake! Happy Easter.

Yes to anything chocolate! Adding the extra flavor sounds quite different. I bet those doughnuts with a hint of orange are delicious, too.
