Happy Monday, Friends! Once the holiday decorations are put away for another year, my house always feels a little bare, and it doesn't help that the pollen count/seasonal allergies limit my time outdoors. So I decided to create a living plant sanctuary to chase away the winter blahs--green thumb not required

Honest! If you are like me and love to garden but haven't had the best results with house plants, I've got a few thrifty tips for you. I have come to the conclusion that I tend to over water and fuss too much over indoor plants. Let's face it--over watering a Texas garden is pretty unlikely!
1. Grow multiple garden cuttings in water instead of purchasing potted plants.
All of the English ivy, rosemary, and herbs pictured are garden cuttings in water. Not only does this eliminate the tendency to over water, you can propagate free plants and pair them with floral tubes for endless creative containers like this vintage ceramic heater tile I repurposed.

2. Splurge on the occasional grocery store plant or bouquet but use a moisture meter!
To be honest, my track record with orchids hasn't been promising but I am feeling optimistic since the sensor has delayed my watering on more than one occasion.

3. Refresh water in containers and floral tubes weekly.

4. Nurture...with creativity and whimsy.
Resist the temptation to become a helicopter-hovering plant parent and nurture your little sanctuary by shopping your home for thrifted, vintage, and handmade accents to add a touch of whimsy!

5. Get crafty with it!

Here's a wider view of the mantel and gallery wall:

From dill...

...to rosemary and eucalyptus, I am enjoying the aromatherapy and beauty daily.

Stay tuned--I'll be sharing tips for easy chalkboard lettering soon!

Dear Firstborn gave me this beautiful John Derian mushroom ornament for Christmas.
