Happy Monday! Last month I visited my girls' families in Colorado and we celebrated my 60th birthday. Today I'm sharing highlights from my trip plus the Country Sampler giveaway winners.
In the last several years, I have seen lots of snow during my Colorado visits even when the forecast promised mild weather. Here in the warmer Texas climate, our leaves go from green to dead, so I just had to start with the beautiful fall foliage I saw during this visit!
Dear Firstborn picked me up from the airport on Friday night. She had the guest room all decked out in honor of my milestone birthday. On Saturday, we started the day at a cute local honey shop followed by lunch at a charming French Bakery and shopping at an antique market where I scored several copper pieces.
For dinner, DF's partner EL made us delicious fish tacos with avocado mango salsa! Desserts during my stay consisted of brownie cheesecake, chocolate croissants, and an assortment of macarons we brought home from the French bakery.
On Sunday, we drove to Estes Park and they treated me to a lovely brunch at The Stanley Hotel where the movie, The Shining was filmed. Despite its creepy portrayal in the movie, it's a beautiful hotel. We were there the week before Halloween so it was especially fun. I took so many photos, I'll be sharing a separate post featuring it next week! It was such a gorgeous day that we stopped for more photos on our way home.
While I was visiting Youngest Daughter, SIL, and Ginger Grand, I was treated to pasta, pizza, champagne and tiramisu. Ginger Grand and I watched Lego Masters, played video games, and went for walks in their pretty neighborhood. He has gotten SO tall--he will probably be taller than me next time I see him! We all went to their favorite burger place where I had the biggest and best veggie burger ever! (YD prefers not to have images of her family displayed publicly online.) Missing my Colorado kids is a constant ache so I really cherished celebrating this special birthday together. Once I was back in Texas, Favorite Son treated me to a belated birthday lunch at one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants, where we ate way too much queso!
Congratulations to giveaway winners: BethN, Kathy, and Julie 11! Please email me to confirm your mailing addresses!
Happy Birthday! Looks like a wonderful trip. Can't wait to see the post of the hotel.
ReplyDeleteColorado is wonderful and dramatic. Timberline Lodge, where the exterior shots were filmed. King's novel is based on the famous Stanley Hotel in Colorado, but the exterior shots in the movie are of Oregon's Timberline Lodge. Our family had several reunions in Colorado at a ranch with cabins and main lodge near the Durango/ Silverton area.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fabulous trip!
