Shades of Aqua and Blush for the Holidays: Cozy at Christmas Blog Tour

Happy Wednesday Friends! Today I'm participating in the Cozy at Christmas Holiday Blog Tour. Whether you're new here, or a regular, I'd like to wish you a warm welcome! Over the years, I've used a variety of colors to decorate for Christmas, from traditional red and green to neutrals and metallics. This year, I've decided to embrace the nontraditional color palette in my living room for the holidays. My vintage holiday decor ranges from robin's egg to deep turquoise and blush to hot pink. Grab a cup of coffee, get comfy and let's get started!

Aqua and Blush Nontraditional Christmas Decor

As is probably the case with many of you, over time, some of my tastes have changed while some remain constant. Though I often use neutral colors for seasonal decor, my main living area is painted pale gray with the exception of one vibrant turquoise accent wall. Several years ago, before blush was a trend, I brought home a vintage settee from my local thrift store. At first I was hesitant, because I had never considered a pink hued sofa. However, I soon fell in love with the way the blush complemented the shades of aqua and gray already present in my home. I would imagine from the popularity of the color, that I'm not the only one who has been pleasantly surprised by the warmth it adds to a room. {You can see more of my living room here.}

I'm slightly obsessed with vintage ornaments, and interestingly there seems to be an abundance of them in pink and turquoise. I collect them and have used them to create a repurposed bed spring ornament tree...

...and of course on my tree! The vintage school chalkboard here and the vintage frame below are both thrifted finds. {To see how to repurpose a frayed vintage tablecloth to create lace garland, click here!}

My cherished nativity set has been passed down from my grandmother to my mother and on to me. When my mother was a girl, she gave my grandmother a piece each year for Christmas. I display it proudly during the holidays and it's the first thing Ginger Grand asks about when I show him my Christmas decorations via Facetime. This year, I placed it in front of my tree on the vintage wicker stool I featured Friday. {To see how to create my no sew tree skirt, click here!}

Even the upcycled vintage mirror that hangs over my blush settee gets a festive touch for Christmas--Joyeux Noel!

I'm fond of mixing vintage and handmade with upcycled thrift store and bargain finds like these luscious pink bottlebrush trees from Target's dollar spot. The lovely blush ombre runner is actually a handmade scarf I picked up at a local church craft sale. I love layering textures, too. {Click here to make a placemat pillow, like the one in the photo!}

It's time to wrap some presents for under the tree! Here's a better view of how the colors work together. Rearranging my living room a few months ago, meant finding a new place for the Christmas tree. The room doesn't feel as spacious as usual, but I don't mind the coziness for the season. In the corner is some of the vintage luggage I use as decorative storage year round. {Look here, to get a closer look at my shabby chandy!}

Across the room from the tree, is the gray sofa I gave a chalk paint makeover after scoring it at a yard sale for $10. {Look here, to see how it looked before I rescued it!} It was a quite a job, but I've been so pleased with the results. I'm always asked if the painted fabric feels stiff. No, and two years later, the texture is still smooth to the touch. {Click here, to make this cozy pom-pom throw!}

I think every room needs a touch of whimsy. I found this cute pillow at Tuesday Morning. With the hustle and bustle the holidays can bring, the sentiment is a good reminder.

Of course, the message on this sign is even better! Hope your Christmas is full of His joy and peace!

  1. I'm admiring all your lovely vintage ornaments with the soft faded pastel colors. I have only a few of the soft pink vintage ones left, but even those few remind me of all the Christmas days of the past.

  25. Cecilia,
    What a fun and whimsical color scheme for Christmas! My sister loves peach and has collected several Christmas items in peach and blush tones. It may be the latest trend in Christmas decor to use blush.

    Merry Christmas,

  32. Loved seeing your home decorated for Christmas! I love the aqua and blush. Brot home some 70% off turquoise snowflakes from Joann's today for a next year's wreathe...maybe not! They may grace my tree this year! Found 4 purple bulbs at GW this week, my favorite color! Traditions at Christmas are so important to me. When the kids were little, one came home and said we had no traditions at our house. I jumped down her throat! What about the Nativity set, Christmas Eve carols and candles, the getting presents for the giving tree at church, making cooky cutter cookies for others, etc., etc.? Turns out she didn't know what the word tradition meant!!! She now does this stuff with her 12 year old! They have an Elf which I envy!
