DIY Painted Trash Can Refresh

Happy Monday, Friends! When you saw my blog post title, did you think Who paints their trash can?! Well you probably know me well enough by now to know This girl does! My kitchen trash can is out in the open right by the back door so of course, I want it to look nice

Although it was pretty when I bought it at Homegoods about ten years ago, I was never a fan of the black liner against the cream colored can, plus I always thought the vine-like design would be prettier in green than red. I spot clean it occasionally but after realizing it really needed a good cleaning, and since I've gotten a lot braver about painting things--my oven, a vintage sofa, and my bathroom floor, to name a few--I decided to finally tackle this project. Better late than never, right?! Here's a quick before and after:

Now I realize you may not have a trash can that needs a refresh, but is there another household item you've been wanting paint? Let's do it! Start by cleaning the surface thoroughly. TIP: Magic eraser sponges work great on most surfaces! Then paint the item as desired. That's all there is to it! TIP: I often tape around different colors on items before painting but with this intricate design that would have probably taken longer than actually painting it!
