Repurposed Copper Birdcage Lanterns

Hi there, Friends! It's time for another Creative Craft Blog Hop hosted by Sara at Birdz of a Feather. Today I'm sharing how I repurposed previously thrifted finds. Join me to see how easy it is to create these repurposed copper birdcage lanterns...

If you're hopping over after visiting Donna from Modern on Monticello, welcome! When the price is right, I rarely pass on birdcages when I see them at thrift stores and yard sales. They are such fun accents whether you hang them in the garden or bring them indoors to use in vignettes or centerpieces.

Here, you can see the befores and the spray paint I used. All you really need to do to prep is make sure they are clean and free of any flaking paint before spray painting them.

TIPS:
*Spray paint lantern hooks at the same time for hanging.
*Combine battery operated LED candles with citronella candles when you are outdoors with your lanterns. Otherwise, LED candles are the safest option.

  2. Cecilia, these are just gorgeous! I would love to have a couple of big ones to hang in the garden as decor. I have tiny ones, strategically scattered around the house, but would really like some big ones.

  6. Cecilia, you are so right about bird cages. They are awesome for home decor and outdoor accessories. I have one I bought and painted years ago. I put a plant inside. Now, I’ll put in a candle during the fall and winter. Thanks for the idea.

  10. I never would have thought of using copper paint! What a great color! I love bird cages, too! I have made dollhouse conservatories--with lots of mini plants--from several as well as Christmas decor. I wish I could find more, more often!
