Thank God it's thrifty Friday, Friends! Today I'm sharing the upcycle of a previous estate sale find. Check out this thrifty technique to give plastic a realistic-looking faux concrete finish...
You may remember that I used the same technique to refresh my wall fountain last year.
These are the paints I used for today's project.
I originally purchased this urn at an estate sale several years ago. You can see that it was past due for a refresh! First: I use a wire brush to loosen flaking paint. Next: I repainted the urn with Deco Art Chalky finish in Yesteryear. Last: I dry brushed the raised details with white multi-surface craft paint.

TIP: Don't worry about getting the detail work perfect--just keep a wet rag handy to wipe away excess paint, and you'll be surprised by the results!
Here's a closer peek at the dry brushed accents.
Great idea! I have two old black plastic urns that could use a concrete makeover!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Looks so high end now! I can't paint detail worth a darn but I can do washes and dry brushing!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty, Cecilia! A great upcycle. Love it. xo Kathleen
