Texas Antiques Week: The Best of Round Top, Warrenton, La Bahia and Burton

Hi there, Friends! I know that for many of you a trip to Round Top for Texas Antiques Week is on your bucket list, so when I go, I like to take lots of photos to share with you. This year, in addition to the Round Top/Warrenton venues, my friend Carly and I ventured further down the highway to La Bahia and Burton and found a few new favorites. You can see what I bought and where, here.  Now, get comfy and enjoy the tour...

After a four hour drive, we arrived just as the La Bahia Antiques Show  was opening for First Friday at 8:00. It was a new venue for us and now a favorite. I was swooning over this vintage frame and antique armoire and either (or both) would be welcome at my house!

Did you see this fabulous vintage scale display on my Instagram feed earlier this week?

I loved the metal letters on these rustic farmhouse signs.

Now you know, I couldn't resist snapping a shot of jadite ;)

Inside the tents, vintage goodness filled every nook and cranny...

...and outside, look at all that silver! Sigh!

Next, we headed over to Burton, to a charming little shop called Flown the Coop that piqued my interest after reading about it from Kim at Hunt and Host.

 It didn't disappoint!

It featured an eclectic mix of vintage and whimsy and was just plain fun!

After browsing a few more shops in this picturesque rural town, we drove the ten miles back to Round Top. By this time it was just after 10:00--plenty of good shopping hours left!

Cole's is a favorite and has the best selection of vintage dishes, bakeware and collectibles. Most of the vendors there are willing to deal and it's an air conditioned building--spring or fall, it's been hot every time I've gone! See more photos from Cole's here.

Another place you don't want to miss is Excess. You'll find anything here from retro....

oodles of gorgeous eye candy!

There's also plenty of salvage for DIY projects and it's where I found my vintage barn light shade last year. How awesome is this chippy bench?

Wouldn't you like to get comfy in this beautiful bedding? I shared a sneak peek of this in my favorite Facebook group Make It New: Upcycle, Repurpose and DIY Ideas. We'd love to have you join!

To recap, all our stops were in a ten mile radius. We went the week prior to the "official" opening, which I've learned from experience is the best time to go. The places I shared do not charge admission and offer free parking. With the exception of Marburger Farm (which does charge admission) most of the vendors set up early and there are plenty of places to shop. As far as prices in general, it's a great place to find vintage home decor and hard to find architectural pieces for DIY projects and there are bargains to be found, especially at the smaller venues. Typically though, things are not priced to resell if you are a dealer. If it's your first trip, you probably want to allow more than a day to shop, but with careful planning, it can be done. Again, the volume of vendors can be overwhelming, which is another reason I lean toward smaller venues. I read there are more than 60 shows but that doesn't include all of the vendors at each show! For example Marburger Farm has 350 vendors this year. The La Bahia Antique Show has around 40. Check the Texas Antiques Week calendar for dates on which vendors are open. 1. Cecilia, thank you for this great roundup and personal comments. Those are all quite helpful for someone like me who would love to go but most definitely would feel overwhelmed as to the sheer volume. I think my preferred trek would be much like yours, and so I did pin this. Thanks!

  2. Thankyou for taking all those pictures for us to drool over! I knew as soon as I saw that first bed, that it was YOU! One of my favorite things was the hen nesting box; wouldn't it be great for a yarn hoarder supply in a craft room??? Or my silk flowers. Quilters' remnants.. I wanted to gently pull the runner the Jadeite was on to straighten it out! I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I enjoyed the pix!
