Queen of Hearts Dress Form... or Why I Still Play Dress Up!

Greetings Friends! I know some of you may be experiencing severe weather this weekend and I hope you are all snug and warm! If you're hibernating, grab a hot drink and come play dress up...

Yes, it's time to play "dress up" with Juliet again! I know many of you share my love for mannequins and dress forms and I have a theory about that. I can't help but think we are indulging the little girls we once were--it's fun and adds whimsy to our homes! When my girls were little, we were constantly hunting yard sales and thrift stores for dress up clothes. They had boxes full, including a collection of vintage hats.  Ah..for simpler times! Since Valentine's Day is approaching, Juliet is decked out as the Queen of Hearts.  Of course since she is a thrifty girl, she is sporting something old as well as something new and handmade.  Best of all, I've shopped home for everything which is always the best place to start.

Juliet's skirt is crafted from hearts cut from vintage sheet music and gold doilies, then glued to sheer ribbon--like a vertical garland.   On Wednesday, I'll be sharing the tutorial on how to make these floating hearts plus the other ways I've used them.  The sparkly mini clothes pins and felt heart trim were purchases from Michael's dollar bins last year.

Here's a closer look at how I've used the clothes pins to attach the floating hearts and red felt trim.

Juliet's lace sleeves are fashioned from the outer edges of the gold doilies used on the skirt.

I wove more of the heart trim through the top part of her bodice.

As a finishing touch, I added vintage valentines from my collection.

Isn't it fun to see messages from the past?

Juliet loves her bling, so she had to wear a heart necklace.

  7. Cecilia, my hubby teases me all the time and says I'm playing house. Love your sweet Juliet! You know that I am a theme girl and love the Queen of Hearts. I will be bringing my mannequin out into the entry for Valentines. I modge podged fabric to her bodice a few years ago so I won't be changing her up a whole lot.

  17. I don't play dress up much, but I play house all the time - constantly rearranging.

Your Valentine decor is lovely, but my favorite is the graphics of your vintage Valentine's. They are so special.
