No Slipcover? No Problem!

Greetings Friends! A few months ago I freshened up my bedroom.  In addition to updating the flooring, I rearranged some furniture.  For comfort, I decided to move this cozy chair from another room but originally it was the wrong color.  Today I'm sharing my solution--no sewing or painting required!

No sew vintage linen slipcover

This estate sale find has literally played musical chairs in my home--from the living room to a guest bedroom and finally to my bedroom.  I considered painting it because I've seen beautiful results from some of my industrious blogging friends. However, the concensus is it can be a challenge to maintain a velvety texture.  As this chair is so comfy, I wasn't ready to take a chance I might regret, so I started considering slipcovers...

BEFORE vintage linen slipcover

....but only briefly.  Most of them are rather expensive and I honestly didn't see any that I really loved, so I continued to ponder.  I'd covered my wicker footstool cushion with a vintage pillowcase and I really liked how it looked.  Now when it comes to vintage linens, I'm kind of like Bubba in Forrest Gump. Remember when he describes the various ways to prepare shrimp? "There's shrimp ka-bobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo...."  and the list goes on. On my last thrifting jaunt, I was paying for several lovely linens and was asked, "Now what are you going to do with those?"  when the movie loop starts playing in my mind, "Vintage linen table runner,  vintage linen banner, vintage linen slipcover..."

What can I say, they inspire me! So... I started by tucking the matching embroidered pillowcase into the chair back.  Next, I placed a white European sham in the chair's seat.  After a few days, I found that it rarely needed adjusting or re-tucking after sitting; less than most slipcovers actually! Now I just needed to beautify the arms...

I found the perfect solution in these thrifted crocheted tablecloths! I just draped one over each arm and tucked a bit, allowing scalloped edging to be displayed.  I am so happy with my slipcover alternative and love the lacy appearance!  Each piece is washable....

....and it was super thrifty! I bought only the tablecloths--both for less than $15! Plus I can always change it, if the urge strikes me ;)
