Happy Monday, Friends! Do you display a nativity scene during the holidays? As promised when I shared my vintage Christmas home tour, today I am featuring my heirloom nativity displayed on the holiday mantel in the dining room...
For those of you who have read the story of my Christmas nativity before, please humor me as I share it once again for the sake of those who have not.
My nativity set is a cherished heirloom. When my mother was a little girl, she gave my grandmother a piece each year for Christmas. My grandmother handed it down to my mother, who in turn passed it on to me.
Although it may be styled differently or show up in various places from one year to another...
I loved seeing your Nativity set--albeit again. I love seeing others' Christmas decorations. One year my ex-husband was visiting the kids. He asked, "Why do you have 2 Nativity sets?" I just looked at him, and said, "Because I can." If I had space, I'd collect them too! One is an almost 50 year old plastic set (a cheap Fontanini knockoff) which the kids always helped us set up. I would buy more sheep at Woolworth's after Christmas when they were .40! Dates me, huh? Then I added a Macy's china set; I look for more kings (now that I know that there were probably more than 3 wise men!), shepherds, angels, and accessories when thrifting. One of my faves is a small Goebel angel dressed in pink! Actually there is a third small white porcelain set with MJJ and the kings under the anniversary clock's cloche. The cat tipped the clock over years ago, which broke off the brass twirling balls but not the glass, and it left just enough space tor them! It stays out all year to remind me! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! There's nothing like an heirloom nativity set. I think it makes it all the more special. Merry Christmas my friend! Wishing you and your family a lovely weekend! xo
