Inspirational Embroidered Sign Upcycle: Fridays at Home

Hi there, Friends! Are you missing thrift store shopping as much as I am? Obviously, I don't  have any recent thrifted finds to share, so for the time being, I'm introducing a feature called Fridays at Home. It may be a little different each week, but today I'm sharing the upcycle of a forgotten find...

Yep--forgotten! I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but surely, I'm not the only one who has tucked a project somewhere intending to photograph it "later" only to come across it unexpectedly and discover "new" treasure! That's what happened with this charming inspirational embroidered sign that I  scored at a yard sale at least a few years ago.  I find the timing of my rediscovering this art and its inspirational message particularly providential. Are you familiar with the prose? It was written on a cellar wall during the Holocaust. Although the original dark wood frame had some discolored spots, you can see that the embroidery is in excellent condition.

Now I have since gotten a little better about photographing projects as I go, but when I came across this one on a closet shelf, I had already gently used a lint roller on the fabric to remove any traces of dust, placed it in the sunlight to air out any mustiness, and painted it with Deco Art Chalky Finish Vintage paint. I could have sworn that I'd taken a before photo, but either my computer ate it or I am mistaken! However, you can see the dark wood from the frame back, below. As a final step to my forgotten upcycle, I lightly distressed the frame with fine sandpaper.
