Hi there, Friends! Are you enjoying nice weather in your neck of the woods? It has been lovely here, and I have been getting outdoors for walks and soaking up some much-needed garden therapy. With everyone at home, many of us are refreshing our outdoor spaces. Today, I'm sharing a few thrifty tips to create a relaxing retreat in your garden...
Use What You Have!
If you weren't already shopping your home before the pandemic, it's likely taken on a whole new meaning! Do you shop your garden too? The first thing that comes to mind is cutting fresh blooms, herbs, and veggies, but I make it a practice to stroll through the front and back gardens to think of new ways to use what I already have. In fact, I tend to rearrange my garden furniture more than my decor inside! For my latest relaxing retreat, I started by moving a wicker chaise that was in my front yard to my back garden. I had been thinking about sliding it in next to my pink knockout roses, and it was the perfect fit.
Buy at the End of the Season for the Best Deals!
Next to garden blooms and painted furniture, colorful cushions and pillows are one of my favorite ways to refresh outdoor spaces. However, they can be quite pricey! Over the years, I've resewn covers and have occasionally found nice outdoor pillows at thrift stores, like this pretty yellow one that was still wearing its tags when I scored it early in March. However, I've had the best luck replacing larger cushions by buying them marked down at the end of the season. When I found this turquoise cushion in September, who would have thought that shopping would have become so limited this spring?! Of course, it's hard to know what's to come in the next few months, but it's a tip worth remembering for future reference!

Repurpose and Upcycle!
I made the sign from a piece of salvaged wood that was in my garden shed. Stay tuned--in a few weeks I'll show you how I "stenciled" it by repurposing a different craft supply!
Arrange your retreat to showcase garden features!
As I mentioned earlier, I knew it would be relaxing to create a "bed of roses" by placing my chaise next to the profuse blooms, but trees in the background also provide needed shade for upcoming warmer temperatures.

Also, the location is within view and the soothing sounds of the wall fountain.
Remember these fun dollar store wine glasses? A citronella candle helps keep pests away and provides additional calming ambience.

All great ideas. I wish NJ weather would warm up a bit. Middle of May usually the beginning of warmer weather and plants.

ReplyDeleteEnvy you the sitting outdoors weather! Rain and a bit of snow here today; brought my pansies in! I love buying end of season stuff, especially clothes. Come spring, I have a "new wardrobe" and for some reason, money always seems to be tighter then. Still busy crafting from the stash! Stay safe!
