Red, Aqua and Blush Whimsical Cupid Valentine Diorama

Happy Wednesday, Friends! Have you heard that we're going to see bolder colors in home decor this year? Though I'm not one to follow trends, I do enjoy adding color, especially when it comes to seasonal decor. Today I'm sharing a whimsical little valentine diorama with a lot of color.  You might say that I'm playing cupid with red, aqua and blush...

This project has been in the works for some time now. A few years ago, my hunt began for a vintage tissue box cover. Originally, I planned to craft a diorama for Easter. Unfortunately, Easter came and went twice before I finally found this beauty, last summer.

I considered a Christmas diorama, but after seeing quite a few versions, I opted to wait for Valentine's Day. However, I did keep out my blush ombre bottlebrush trees from my holiday decor, anticipating that they would be perfect for this project. When I won a chalk paint giveaway from Lauren at Wonderfully Made, I had enough left over to paint the tissue box cover after painting my dining chairs.  Once I placed the trees, I got the idea to add cupids too.

When I pulled out valentine crafts in search of the other cupids, I came across this heart garland that I'd bought on clearance, but never used....

...until I found its purpose. By cutting small pieces from the strand and tying the filament line to the openings in the cover, it created a lovely backdrop of red translucent hearts.

Also in my stash, I came across this sweet mini rosebud wreath, I'd saved from a package I'd received. I used more filament line to tie it to the top center.

I used the lid of the cover to create a stand for the box, adding a vintage hankie inside. It really came together nicely. Considering the challenge I had finding the tissue box cover, a similar look could be created with a repurposed box or even a small drawer. Then raid your craft or holiday stash, like I did to decorate it. {I'll include some links at the bottom of the post, too.}

 You can see I did find the other cupids. Notice the hues that provided my inspiration?

I bought the charming vintage inspired set on clearance at World Market several years ago and have used them every year since. They have tiny clips on the backs that make them perfect for valentine crafts.

  2. I was wondering what you had in mind for the tissue box! This is so cute. Love the colors! (Thank goodness color is coming back in style...I'm so bored with the all white look!)

  3. Adorable. I love the little cupids. Great use of an old tissue box. Now I've got to be on the lookout for one and I Actually had one but sold it in my booth.

  4. And I would love it as you could just put all the accessories into the box and be ready for next year--if I could remember where I put the box! I'd like to compare the total for your vignette compared to paying full price ordering on line; I bet you could make 3 or 4 with thrifting materials!

  5. So sweet Cecilia! I use these colors often. I think they are so pretty together. We had an old tissue box in the estate sales I had helped with. Wish I had snagged it now. lol!
