Creating a Cozy Home on a Budget!

Greetings Friends! Wow, that arctic front this week made me want to stay indoors and snuggle up! Home is our sanctuary and this time of year, I am particularly grateful for my mine.  Recently, I helped a friend transform her family's apartment for less than $60!  Whether you live in a rental or just want to add some warmth to your living space for the holidays, come see what we did...

Warm and cozy home on a budget

To save money, always start with what you have! Carly had comfy leather furniture but everything was dark brown which gave her newlywed home a slight man cave ambiance.  Even so, her sense of style was evident. She had arranged a charming collage of crosses and also created a gallery wall of family photos--definite keepers!  Here's where we started...

Make leather furniture cozy

Since Carly's family lives in a rental and painting wasn't an option, the first priority was to add color with great curtains and fun pillows.  She also hoped to find a floor lamp. Here's the bare window....

Budget friendly window treatments

Ta-daa....Look at these fabulous curtains we found for $20 at Tuesday Morning--what a transformation! We also scored a clearance rod at Lowe's. Like the curtain grommets, it has a brass finish and the finials have a mercury glass look that Carly loves.  She already had these gray chevron pillows and the graphic blue and gray pillow was another TM bargain. The brass floor lamp in the corner was a thrift store find!

A better view--here you can see her lovely cross collage.  Carly pulled the pale blue pillow from her bedroom to pick up the lighter shade in the curtains.

$60 living room makeover

I love this gallery wall of photos--such a warm way to tell your family's story! We added museum putty to the back edges of the frames that didn't want to stay straight and I had one more finishing touch...

Gallery wall of family photos

I found this ornate frame for $1.50 at the same thrift store I got the lamp.   I just gave the plastic frame a coat of chalk paint and added a faux chalkboard. See how I created this Pier One knock off for a fraction of the cost.

Chalkboard art

Last but not least, pretty little details! Carly already had the sweet birdie, roses and tray.  The feather candle votive and silver coasters were a whopping $1.10-- a grand total of $59.60!

By using what was in Carly's home and layering a few new bargains with unique thrift store finds, we achieved our goal--warm & cozy & no more man cave! How do you make your home cozy?
