Happy Tuesday, Friends! Have you ever come across a tired looking wreath at the thrift store, or do you have a few in the closet that have seen better days? Today I'll show you some simple thrifty tips to dress up wreaths for the holiday season plus I'm joining my talented blogger friends for the Christmas Door Decor blog hop...
...hosted by Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home. Welcome! If you've hopped over after visiting Judith at Botanic Bleu, I know you enjoyed her helpful wreath tips. Pretty wreaths don't have to be expensive or big, and I like to hang them in a variety of places. One of the easiest way to dress up a plain wreath is with the right ribbon. I'm completely smitten with velvet ribbon this year, and you'll be seeing more of it featured with my Christmas decor! The small wreath above is hanging from the drawer of a recent furniture transformation, while the one below is hanging from a kitchen cabinet. Both wreaths were $5 at Hobby Lobby and they look lovely in pairs, so I hung one on each side of the buffet and on each corner kitchen cabinet.
This amaryllis wreath was a clearance tent purchase from Antiques Week in Round Top. This year, I added some greenery and ribbon to hang it on my kitchen door and to change up its appearance from last year...
...when it was hung on my front door. That brings me to my next tip: I keep an eye out year round for small signs or greetings to embellish wreaths for different seasons.
I've found little signs at yard sales, thrift stores, and craft stores that are perfect for upcycling older wreaths or adding to fresh ones.
I always shop Lowes or Home Depot for Black Friday deals on fresh wreaths. This year I found them at Lowe's for $5 each!
You may remember the clearance floral wreath I scored after the holidays, last year. I started by displaying it with winter whites. but I have used the wreath all year by tweaking it for the seasons. I found this glittery Celebrate sign 60% off at Michael's. It's perfect with my pastel Christmas decor and will look lovely through the new year, too!
I also enjoy creating fun wreath alternatives with thrifted finds, like my repurposed rake head Christmas tree.
This farmhouse style candy cane wreath was crafted with dollar store supplies.
Last, think outside the box if a small figurine or embellishment makes you smile.
This mother deer and fawn and whimsical elf are just the right size for resting inside the wreath's opening. You probably have small accents on hand to add that special touch to one of your wreaths, too!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Next up is Coco at the Crowned Goat. I can't wait to see her lovely holiday decor inspiration!
So many great ideas! I love how you frosted your Magnolia wreath and your candy cane wreath has me wanting to head to the dollar store for supplies.
ReplyDeleteI have those same frosted magnolia wreaths from Hobby Lobby's 50% off Christmas sale! I'm thinking of using mine as candle rings, but I'm still not sure yet....I also place little signs in my wreaths and love what you've done with yours! xo Kathleen
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of wreaths. I adore the candy cane and the rake is fantastic! May your days be merry and bright.
ReplyDeleteYou always have so many fun ideas Cecilia! I can't believe you've found so many wreaths at such great prices. Thanks for the tip about looking for wreaths off season. I will definitely keep that in mind. On a side note, I don't think I've ever seen an amaryllis wreath like that before - it's stunning! Hope your holiday seasons is fantastic! Hugs, CoCo
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, afer so many years in the craft business, much of it spent as a floral designer---it's amazing what snow or glitter can cover up....I love the fine dust glitter---whitewash Designmaster if they still make it, or woodbine/Designmaster, and of course white snow...and a bit of spray glue/and iridescent snow(buffalo flakes) you can fix anything with these!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, love your ideas!
I loved all of your ideas and the bloggers; this year buffalo plaid ribbon is fascinating me! Splurged for a tobacco basket a while back; this morning I put an artificial evergreen wreath in, 5 apple/pinecone/present picks, a red truck with greenery and pine cones in the center with a narrow full bow of b.p. with snowflakes! I just love the red trucks; spurged at Christmas tree shop for potholders, towels, shirt boxes, etc. Framed a shirt box cover...have NEVER (in 68 years) done a THEME; this is THE year! Last year I bought a small piece of Joann's cloth with circles of "I craft so hard I sweat glitter." Mounted one piece on cardboard for a pin, made aprons for Elf(ves) on the Shelf with glitter projects in process (one for grand!). I cover up nicks, faded spots, and dings with glitter all the time! Today I decorated my front hall a bit...it is time!
ReplyDeleteThey are all precious, Cecilia, and so creative. You vintage touches are perfect.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas Cecilia! Seeing how pretty that candy cane wreath is on that red door makes me want to paint ours. Love your fun collection of wreaths. I guess I need to shop more off season! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love all of your wreath ideas but the repurposed rake has my heart. Now I'm on the hunt for an old rake! And man, I need to check my Lowe's around here. $5.00 for a fresh wreath is amazing! Merry Christmas
ReplyDeleteThey are all so cute, but my absolute favorite is the rake!!!
