Hello Spring Blooming Dress Form

Hi there, Friends! I have been so excited to share today's project with you! Tomorrow is officially the first day of spring and I'm greeting the season with a blooming dress form...

Whether it's for Valentine's DayChristmas, or sometime in between, you know how I love to play dress up with my dress form, Juliet.

I'd been wanting to deck her out for spring so when I came across the perfect silk flowers, I decided to create a repurposed floral arrangement. If you have a dress form, all you need is your choice of silk flowers and some masking tape. {If a dress form is on your wish list, check out the links at the bottom of the post.}

I chose two complementary shades of peonies that reminded me of the scene from the movie Steel Magnolias, when Shelby, the character portrayed by Julia Roberts, describes her wedding colors as blush and bashful ;) Have you ever used masking tape to create separate spaces for flowers in a floral arrangement? Using the same concept, I started by crisscrossing masking tape in the center opening of the dress form. Next, I arranged the flowers, stems and all in the spaces between the tape, occasionally alternating the two colors. Below, you can see the last row of masking tape. I meant to get a shot before I started filling in with flowers, but in my excitement I got carried away!

I finished by adding more flowers in the narrow spaces on the sides of the form. If the stems are arranged fairly close together, they stay in place on their own. Each flower stem I used had about five blooms. Altogether, I used twenty stems. Every so often, I would fluff the petals, stand back and rearrange, kind of like decorating a Christmas tree. Since the stems aren't attached, it's easy to change their placement if needed--just have fun with it! Before long, you'll have a beautiful blooming skirt.

You're probably wondering where I found my gorgeous silk peonies. Would you be surprised that I got them at Dollar Tree? Honestly, I was when I saw them--silk flowers have come along way, Baby! Plus, I already had the smaller roses displayed on top. I'm quite smitten with my latest creation. I love how realistic the flowers look and for the price of a few fresh bouquets, the blooms in this repurposed arrangement will bring me joy without fading!
