Happy Wednesday Friends! Are you a pillow person? I am for sure--whether it's a comfy stack on my bed or a new look for the sofa, I can't seem to get enough! Rather than buy new for each season, I have a thrifty way to change mine up. Join me for a fashion show of pillows!
After my fall home tour, I shared how to dress up bargain pillows with a little thrifted bling. You can see those here. Then just last week, in A Very Thrifty Christmas, I shared this holiday pillow. It's a velvet favorite in robin's egg blue that I've had several years. Here's how I recreated it as a sparkly Christmas tree pillow:
Last month at my favorite annual craft sale, I found this pretty yo-yo piece. Each yo-yo is crafted with metallic fabric which gives a shimmering effect, perfect for the holidays!
Next, I rummaged through my thrifted vintage jewelry collection and found two brooches.
Here's where it gets complicated--not! I pinned them on the pillow, then "buttoned" the yo-yos on. There were plenty of spaces between the yo-yos to add more jewelry, should you prefer but two seemed sufficient.
No sewing, no glue and no expense or extra pillow to store after the holidays--I'll simply remove the yo-yo tree until my velvet pillow gets her next wardrobe change!
Here's a few more pillows I've dressed for the holidays:
This little mini is sporting a burlap snowflake ribbon sash...
...and this lumbar pillow is wearing a jeweled snowflake!
The felt snowflake is pinned on with another brooch.
Do you have any pillows that would like new clothes for Christmas?
MY HEARTFELT THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING FOR FEATURING THIS POST:
Your pillows looks festive and fabulous! The yoyo one is so unique and pretty! :) ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteYou find the most awesome things! Love the yo-yos. I actually recovered some of of mine with dish towels! Three got tied onto the corners and two I made a simple slip in cover for. Easy! Great ideas for dressing up pillows for the season.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of still struggling with Christmas being here in just over a week. Yikes!

Great idea! I love pillows too! Can you believe how expensive they can be. I refuse to spend that much on a pillow especially a seasonal one. This is the perfect solution! Love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Your pillows are adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent idea, Cecilia! Those shimmery yo-yos are perfect and brooches are a genius idea! I have tons of vintage brooches...might just have to try this! I have my own holiday pillow trick post coming up later in the week! xoKathleen

ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteHello my name is Kari and I am a pillow addict! I have been on the wagon for about 5 long years now – no more buying pillows I no longer have room for without renting a storage rental container to hold them all in. I cheat once in a while and sneak in a pillow cover because they don’t really take up any room and are not the same right? lol This wonderful idea is perfect for me to dress up what I do have without buying more! Gotta go root thru my jewelry box now – thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHi Cecilia, I just love yo yo's. They are so fun to work with. Your pillows are lovely and very Christmasy. Have a Merry week! xx Jo
