Simple Scrumptious Sweets: Holiday Recipe Blog Hop

Happy Wednesday, Friends! Welcome, to everyone visiting for the Holiday Recipe Blog Hop, I'm glad you're here! I'm looking forward to pinning lots of new recipes for the upcoming holiday season. It's no secret that I have quite the sweet tooth--so today I'm sharing a few of my favorite Christmas sweets.

simple fudge truffles

Usually, I am pretty intentional about eating healthy. If you were to browse through my recipes, you'd find mostly healthy choices sprinkled with the occasional chocolate indulgence. Having said that, I will tell you that the holidays are my favorite time to indulge and I do so guilt free! These are both simple recipes to prepare, yet decadently delicious. First, salted caramel tarts...

There's a funny story behind this next recipe, which is how I came up with the name. Every year, for as long as I can remember, I've made the same fudge recipe. It was always a favorite among friends and family and I never had any problems with it setting....until a few years ago. I made the recipe as usual, but it never would set. Being the thrifty girl I am, I couldn't bear to waste the still delicious fudge that could only be eaten with a spoon. I got creative, made truffles and a new recipe was born! I enjoyed them so much, I made them for a Christmas dessert social I hosted. They were so popular, I ended up taking orders for them! They do make wonderful gifts for teachers or neighbors. Make extra and store them in gift tins in your fridge until you're ready to give them.

Incidentally, I eventually realized my mistake. I had picked up a different brand of condensed milk that was on sale and didn't realize it was 14.4 ounces instead of 14. That little extra was enough to make a difference, so be sure you do use the 14.4 ounce size, or you will have fudge instead of truffles! (Nestle makes a can that size.) Another tip, they are absolutely divine if you substitute orange or peppermint extract for the vanilla. The sprinkle covered ones are festive and always a hit with the kids, but the cocoa dusted are my favorite. Your hands will get messy chocolate-y on the last step, but believe me, they're worth it!
