Cherished Family Keepsakes

Greetings Friends! Are you enjoying your weekend? I have been basking in the gorgeous weather here.  First, we received some much needed rain and now some glorious fall temperatures...finally! Recently my mother gave me several treasured keepsakes; among them her high school typewriter and some family photos from my childhood.  Feeling sentimental as the holidays approach, I was looking for a unique way to display both--maybe you can relate. Today I am sharing my solution...

I found this rustic galvanized box at Hobby Lobby 50% off.  The divided spaces instantly appealed to me for my photos...

Family keepsake box

The family sign I placed at the very top was also a 50% HL find.  I knew the colors would be perfect and it says, "Family is one of life's greatest blessings." Don't you love that? I had all of these bright colored frames on hand--the only one I painted was the largest one with me and my dad  in the bottom center. They were originally from Michaels and Target but I found them and the mini chalkboards at yard sales. I attached magnets to the backs to keep them in place and added a tiny bit of white detail by dry brushing the ornate edges. The baby shoes belonged to Youngest Daughter and fit perfectly in the tall narrow spaces.

Family keepsake box

My mom got this 1950s Royal portable typewriter when she was in high school. When she asked me if I would like to have it, there was no hesitation in my enthusiastic "yes!" Of course y'all know how I feel about Vintage typewriters but knowing my mother used it makes me cherish it even more.  Dear Firstborn made the lovely cross stitched piece for my birthday. The piece of lace visible in the corner is a handmade baby cap that has been in my family for generations. With all of the childhood remembrances, I liked the idea of adding a timepiece and found this Vintage clock--you guessed it--at a yard sale :)

Family keepsake memory box

There are childhood photos of me with each of my parents and even my uncles. I am currently drying some flowers that Favorite Son sent. Once I add them, my memory box will also have a memento from each of my children. My "new" vignette is just outside my bedroom door so I see it daily and treasure the sweet memories.  As I write this, I am nostalgic all over again! What makes you sentimental?
