Shopping Black Friday...Without Leaving Your House!

In a few days, the day known as the biggest shopping day of the year will descend upon us in a frenzy. When my kids were younger, I would set my alarm clock and make this annual pilgrimage to stretch my shopping money and get the best presents on their Christmas lists. Now, we are all a little older and maybe a little wiser and I found a better way! Wouldn't it be nice to get some of those same bargains, while sitting in your warm pajamas, coffee cup in hand, from the comfort of your home? Did you know that many stores not only honor their Black Friday prices online but some actually begin on Thanksgiving day?! Last year, I bought fresh wreaths, garland, and poinsettias as well as sweaters, pajamas and other gifts--all at bottom dollar prices, without leaving my house! This is definitely the way to go if you are shopping for high dollar electronics or gadgets.  The best way to "shop" for your preferred items is to sign up for email notifications at one of the sites like bfads.net or  blackfriday.com .  These sites basically do the work for you--sharing store ads and prices as they are announced and also which stores will honor their prices online and when!

For example, I have already received emails from Best Buy, Target, and Express who are either currently, or as of tonight, offering BF specials online!   Katie Couric would agree! Yesterday, she featured common retailers' snares during the holiday shopping season as well as a few little tricks the savvy shopper can practice including cart abandonment, browsing incognito and Camel, Camel, Camel.  Cart abandonment simply means leaving a few items you want to purchase in your online shopping cart for a day or so. Very often, the retailer will email additional savings or coupons. I have actually had this happen! However, I would not use this approach with a one day or time sensitive offer.  Browsing incognito can be done by clearing your cookies under your browser's toolbar and is helpful with stores you shop frequently.  If the retailer cannot see your previous purchases, they are more likely to offer "first time" savings. Camel, Camel, Camel is an app you can install on your smart phone or computer that lets you know when Amazon will offer their best prices on desired items! With these tips you will be armed and ready! Plan your list in advance, put the turkey in the oven and get some big purchases out of the way before your guests arrive!  Or kick back after the dishes are done and the kids are in bed and save, save save-- I know I will be!  Happy, Happy Thanksgiving!   Please drop by Sunday when my 12 Days of Christmas feature begins!

Here are a few stores I'm watching:
Radio Shack
Lowe's  Best Buy
Office Max
Target is advertising a 20% coupon online or in store good through the Black Friday weekend.
