Nature Inspired Farmhouse Centerpiece

Hi there, Friends! The official first day of fall is just days away and I've been transitioning my decor in hopes that our weather will cooperate soon! Today I'm sharing a simple farmhouse centerpiece that includes a little bit of everything: neutrals with a hint of color, natural elements and upcycled bottles tucked inside a repurposed vintage vessel...

Let's talk about my vintage vessel choice first. Before the current popularity of vintage and reproduction tool caddies, I found this vintage shoe shine box at a yard sale a few years ago and was smitten. Even though the wood had an orangish tint, I grabbed it for $5, promptly gave it a makeover and filled it with pink roses for a repurposed Valentine's Day centerpiece.

It's had a resting place near a stack of my vintage luggage, but I've been wanting to feature it as a fall centerpiece.

You may remember the surplus of coffee drink bottles I've upcycled as bottle vases and also as craft storage. It just so happens that six bottles fit inside the shoe shine box perfectly.

I decided to fill them with a combination of wheat and herbs. The fresh thyme adds a nice fragrance. {Find fresh organic thyme here!} I often use dried blue sage because I have a surplus of it and it looks so similar to lavender.  The wheat was originally from a grocery store bouquet I bought several years ago and have continued to reuse. I like the combination of the three together.

I always find nature's color palette soothing. Equally soothing--I didn't spend a cent!

Nature is a constant source of inspiration for me so I am really loving this look! If you'd like to create a similar centerpiece, take a walk outdoors and see what you can bring inside. Maybe you already have a wooden caddy or tray that you can arrange. If not, I've provided some links below.

  1. I love it too! So pretty! Those little bottles came in handy. I saw a similar shoe shine box a while back 7 didn't get it. Kicking myself ever since. The one I saw was open...not as nice as yours.

  2. Very pretty! I can almost smell the thyme! Hit a yard sale on the way home from church and bot 25 cent bottles; am glamming them up for daughter's Halloween decor. Your coffee bottles would hold one of my little skeletons! Got 4 boxes of stuff @ the yard sale; I must have had fun. Finished loading the dishwasher!

  4. Great look for Fall Cecilia ... I have had some really neat old shoe shine boxes over the years and loved them, especially the hand-made ones. We still have one like yours that Mr. Z. still uses. I love how you repurposed that one. You could even stencil something on the lid pieces(flaps).
    Happy Fall ...

  5. Love the shoe shine box! Thyme is one of my favorite herbs - it looks so pretty with the lavender and wheat. I'm hoping Fall finds us early too. Last week was so nice!

I'm eagerly awaiting fall here and can't wait to bring out my extra large vintage wooden tool caddy full of natural fall decor! Love your mix of naturals. I need to find me some wheat! 12. Love that you used an old shoe shine kit wooden box for your centerpiece. It is so perfect for the farmhouse look. I still have the shoe shine kit box that belonged to my husband. I might just have to break it out.
