How to Restore a Weather-Beaten Birdcage

Happy Monday, Friends! The decor in my Texas garden takes a beating every summer but never more than this year. After weeks of 100+ temperatures and a heat index as high as 120, this little birdcage really needed some love

You can see from the photo that it was faded almost colorless. I paired spray paint and outdoor craft paint to restore it. Spray paint is definitely the best way to cover all the nooks and crannies of a birdcage.

Here's what you'll need:

Start by taping any part that you don't want painted--you'll notice I taped the bird. Next, spray paint evenly with a light coat, allow to dry and repeat if needed. I highly recommend a spray paint trigger. Last, once the birdcage has dried thoroughly, remove the tape and paint desired details (like my blue bird) with outdoor craft paint. That's all there is to it!

  1. Your birdcage looks beautiful. I absolutely love the little blue bird! I too live in Texas and the 100 degree days are really taking a toll on gardens and outdoor decor. Thanks for sharing! Lynn

  2. Aw, it's so cute! It's been hot here in Central Alabama, too. I'm ready for fall!

  3. Well, I live in Maine and it has been unusually hot here, too and I don't have a/c! Resurrecting something with a coat of paint is such an easy thing to do--not to mention it makes it a lovely focal point in your yard now, too! I bet it was hardly noticed when it was so colorless!
