15 Minute No Sew Target Tote Bag Pillow

Happy Monday, Friends! It's been awhile since I've shared a 15 Minute Fix and today I'm  sharing my latest, repurposed from a Target tote bag I found in their bargain dollar spot. It was the perfect solution to recover a faded outdoor pillow and I really love the crisp blue and white ticking for the summer months. Plus, there's absolutely no sewing needed...

Now before you make a trip to Target and get upset because the tote bag isn't $1, I want to be sure to let you know it was one of their $5 selections. However, since I already had a pillow on hand that needed a fresh look, a $5 pillow works for me. On our way to the airport when I was leaving Colorado, Youngest Daughter allowed enough time for a Target run and a Panera stop--two of my favorites that aren't local near me. {We also stopped by Dollar Tree because the one in my area has been out of my favorite peonies and I needed more.} As we were browsing the dollar spot, I had already picked up a small patriotic pillow. Since it wouldn't fit in my purse and my suitcase was not going to hold one more item, I decided to look for a tote that would accommodate both the new pillow and my purse to carry on the plane and this one was just what I had in mind!

Funny thing, as we continued to make our way  around the store to every single end of aisle clearance, I realized how much I liked the fabric on the tote and realized it would make an awfully cute pillow, too. When I shared my thoughts with Youngest Daughter, I got an eye roll, but she smiled because she knows how rarely my purchases end up for their intended use. What fun is that? ;) Ready to make your own? All you need is a tote bag, pillow and a glue gun. First, make sure the pillow you plan to use, fits inside.

Next, if you plan to use the straps to create stripes like I did, you'll need to cut them in the center, as pictured here, which leaves 4 shorter strap pieces, still attached to the tote. Otherwise, they can all be tucked inside the bag or removed completely.

Instead of sewing the closure, it will be folded and then glued. While the glue gun is heating, take a few minutes to experiment with folding the bag at the top for the smoothest look. For mine, I folded the ends in and glued them first.

Then I tucked the back two straps inside the bag/pillow and folded under the long edges like a hem and glued them. Remember to keep the front two straps on the outside of the pillow, for the stripes.

Last, pull the straps down the front of the pillow and tuck under the ends before gluing them to the bottom seam of the tote.

Here's how it looks on the chippy red garden bench, that I've had for ages. It's too worn for sitting but I can't bear to part with it.
