Hi there, Friends! Today I'll show you how to create a simple centerpiece that pairs beachy coastal style with vintage farmhouse by using seashells, dollar store succulents and yard sale finds.
After featuring Miss Kopy Kat's lovely coastal Summer Home Tour at a recent Vintage Charm party, I was inspired to pull out some shells and get creative. Then when I found this gorgeous vintage teak tray at a yard sale, I knew it was the perfect piece to create a coastal farmhouse centerpiece.
I have been watching for the faux succulents I've heard about from other bloggers to hit my Dollar Tree and finally, they did! In fact, I grabbed the last three on the shelf.
Ready to create the centerpiece? Remove the succulents from the styrofoam in the pots. {They come out easily and can be returned back to the pots if you want to reuse them differently in the future.}
Another new arrival at our Dollar Tree is their version of the tacky adhesive that I like to use.
Add a little tacky around the stems to help keep them in place inside the conch shell.
Next, use moss to fill in between the succulents.
Last, place the succulent filled conch inside the tray and arrange an assortment of shells and starfish around it. Voila!
Interestingly, my large conch shell was actually a yard sale find but the shells are from a Seaside vacation with my brother's family several years ago. You can read how I was detained by airport security for smuggling beach sand, here!

Nice display Cecilia. Love the teak tray. You could even sprinkle some of your "smuggled" sand in with the shells. I was lucky to be in $-Tree one morning when a new shipment of succulents arrived and I almost bought all of them. They are really nice for $1.00.

Oh my goodness, you had me rolling about your smuggled sand! That happened to me too! I was bringing sand back from Virginia and even though it was on top of everything in my bag (so they could see it), I was stopped, frisked and questioned about it. My husband and friends thought it was hilarious. I like your Coastal Farmhouse Centerpiece and the memory jar you made with your smuggled sand. The Cecilias once again find a common connection - sand smugglers!
ReplyDeleteI have those succulents as well! My daughters took the first set I bought so I got the last three as well again last week. I always steal sand from the Jersey shore but we drive home so it's never been a problem:) xo Kathleen|Our Hopeful Home
ReplyDeletePinning for my daughter in Florida. She is using coastal decor in her apartment. Love the mix of succulents and sea shells. I have a bunch of those succulents that I picked up at the Dollar Tree a while ago to go into my stash for a future project. Now I know what the project will be.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and charming <3
ReplyDeleteLove that you added the faux succulents to the shell. And I NEED to go get some of those. I actually managed to kill a succulent. LOL - who does that???
ReplyDeleteLove the succulents in the shell. Super charming.
ReplyDeleteWhat great craft idea and I too like the idea of succulents in the sea shell...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Really lovely! I love succulents and sea shells so I might just have to make one for myself.
ReplyDeleteI love your beach centerpiece and adding the succulents is a cute idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing at C&C with J&J.
Enjoy the week.

It's so easy to decorate with faux succulents, and they look so nice! I love the way you tucked them into the large shell with some moss. Your centerpiece looks very pretty!

I found a gorgeous conch shell at a yard sale for $1; they are 19.95 at Michael's!!!! But, I did the right thing and gave it to my secret pal at church who loves seaside decor; I wish I could ask her how she is using it! I also liked the picture you had with the pearls in the shell--so romantic!
ReplyDeleteCute centerpiece!
ReplyDeleteCecilia Your centerpiece is just lovely. I made the mistake of trying to use real succulents and it turned into an epic fail. But you are smarter than me. By using the faux succulents you'll have it around all the time.
ReplyDeleteWow! I learned so much from your blog post! I did not know that Dollar Tree had those cute faux succulents. I will look for them the next time I am there. Such good ideas for keeping items in place with the tacky stuff. Thanks for the shout out! Love your farmhouse shell display.
