New Life for an Old Grill: The Easy Way to Replace Damaged Parts

Happy Wednesday! Do you have an outdoor grill that has seen better days? After nine years, mine definitely had! Come see how I gave it new life just in time for grilling season...

Repair an outdoor grill
This girl loves to fire up the gas grill.  However, despite frequent cleaning and keeping it covered, several parts were about rusted through. Since it still worked, I hoped to replace the parts and extend its life.  I thought maybe I could find parts online, but was pleasantly surprised to find them at Lowe's! Here you can see the heat tents that needed replacing.

The parts were adjustable and easy to assemble at $5.99 each.

Replacing the grill grates was a little trickier.  None of them looked like the originals, but after measuring and a second trip to the store, I found another adjustable solution.  Three pieces fit just right--these were $11.99 each.  I really like that these are lighter weight and much easier to clean. All together, I spent about $58 and it feels like a "new" grill! Plus, I am saving by improving what I already have.  I've tested the new parts...

  1. Yum ... that pork chop looks so good. Smart move to improve and save your old grill. Much cheaper that buying a new one. Anxious to see your herb rub for grilling. We don't grill outside anymore, but have a little electric grill for inside if and when we do. Thanks for sharing.

  6. So glad I came saw your link today on Love of Home! We have a grill that we let run out of gas a few years ago, and then just never got around to getting gas, and now it's ready for the side of the road. I am going to give this a try and see if I can salvage ours!
