Backdoor Lemonade Stand

Greetings Friends! It's starting to feel like summer here and for me that means fresh squeezed lemonade.  There is nothing more refreshing after a hot morning in the garden...

Lemonade serving station

Since I make lemonade so often, I thought it would be fun to set up my own stand.  It faces my backdoor so I am greeted by the fresh lemony scent daily. Glasses and straws are on hand for guests.  Won't you join me?

I must confess I am a lemonade snob--I rarely order it when I'm out because it is usually a mix and it just doesn't taste the same! Besides, it only takes a few minutes for fresh squeeed with this handy gadget! My brother Trey, the foodie introduced me to this little helper several years ago.   Just stick it in your lemon, open the lid and pour the juice out--voila!

I've shared my favorite lemonade recipe before but since then I found a way to simplify it a bit.  I prefer mine with lavender and mint.  If you are a purist, you can omit this first step ;)
First, I put a handful of mint in pot of  three cups of water and one teaspoon of culinary lavender.  I rub the lavender between my palms as I add it. While that comes to a boil, I fill a two quart pitcher half full of water. Next, I add the juice from two extra large lemons.  Once the mint/lavender mixture comes to a boil, I remove it from the heat and allow it to steep for about 30 minutes. Then I strain the mint and lavender buds and stir in 1/4 cup of agave nectar. (Sugar can always be used instead if you prefer.) Last, I add the sweetened herbed mixture to the lemons and water, and stir well before serving. I serve it over ice garnished with fresh mint.  Enjoy!

  6. Looks so refreshing and inviting. I'll have to give it a try. Since I don't have culinary lavender could I use my Young Living Lavender essential oil?

  7. I don't drink lemonade out either for the same reason....too fake tasting. Your recipe sounds wonderful! I cheat a little and put lemon slices in my pitcher with the center compartment for fruit. It really is just lemon water. Yours is fancier!!
