Liebster Award!

Happy Wednesday Friends! Yesterday I received some exciting news: Teresa at Keeping It Real nominated me for the Liebster Award! Thanks so much Teresa!  Though I have heard of the award, I didn't know much about it.  I was elated to learn that part of the process involves me nominating other blogs...

Liebster Award

Liebster is a German word with several translations including Beloved, Sweetheart and Dearest--I like it already! The award honors bloggers; originally it was for those with less than 200 followers.  However, the revised rules* state that blogs with less than 1000 followers may be nominated.

RULES:

1.  Acknowledge and thank the blogger who nominated you.

2.  Find an award image and post it on your blog.

3.  Answer 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.

4.  Share 11 random facts about yourself.

5.  Nominate 11 blogs with under 1000* followers to receive the award.

6.  Notify the bloggers that you nominated them.

7.  Give the nominees 11 questions to answer.

TERESA'S QUESTIONS FOR ME:

1. Why did you start blogging?  My youngest daughter first suggested it and though I was hesitant at first, I soon saw it as the natural way to merge my passions.  Now I am hooked!
2. What is your favorite craft?  I simply adore making over my thrift store finds--whether it is transforming a worn piece of furniture or repurposing items for my home or garden.
3. What is your favorite holiday? I would have to say Christmas is my very favorite with Easter as a close second.
4. Do you have pets?  We had pets when my children were at home but now that my nest is empty, my garden and my blog are my "babies."
5. If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new blogger, what would it be?  Focus on the thing that makes your blog unique. There is so much great information out there, it is easy to get sidetracked and try to do all of those recommended things at once. You know, "7 things every new blogger should be doing," etc. Also, remember other bloggers are your friends! I have found that most bloggers are not only supportive, they can be some of your greatest resources.
6. If you had to move, what state/country would you choose?  Charleston, SC--a few years ago, I vacationed there with my Mom and this southern girl found it so charming!
7. Which of your craft/DIY/projects are you most proud of?  My garden has been an ongoing DIY project and is truly a labor of love.  http://mythriftstoreaddiction.blogspot.com/2014/07/welcome-to-secret-garden.html
8. What is your favorite book? That's kind of like asking who my favorite child is--no way I can name just one :) To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride & Prejudice, The Screwtape Letters, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis are books I've read and re-read. My all time favorite children's book that I read to my kids and now to my grandson: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
9. What is your dream vacation?  I would love to take a mother- daughter trip with my girls to Paris!
10. What is one thing about yourself you would change if you could?  This was the hardest question for me! By nature, I was a worrier.  Through my faith, I have learned to worry a lot less but at times it is still my first response.  A personal goal is for trust to be my first response.
11. Where do you find inspiration?  Hands down my garden is the place where I am most inspired. Many of my blog post ideas and most of my DIY projects are created in the garden.
11 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME:

 1.  I was named after my grandmother and mother; both have Cecilia as their
       middle names.

 2.  I could live on carbs alone.

 3.  I would rather sleep in my own bed than in a nice hotel.

 4.  I love zumba! (See #2!) I prefer to work out at home and have been using the
       dvds for over 2 years.

 5.  I homeschooled my three children.

 6.  My home and garden were filmed for a reality show episode that aired in the UK
but was never picked up in the US.

 7.  I never get tired of Law and Order.

 8.  I am the oldest child and only girl in my family.

 9.  My first pregnancy was a miscarriage.

10.  I drink iced lattes every day--even when it's cold out.

11.  I inherited my love for thrifting from my maternal grandmother, Aimee Cecilia.

And now for my nominations...drum roll please...

  6. Congratulations, Cecilia--you deserve it!! I loved finding out more about you--I'm also the oldest in my family (out of five), but I am blessed with one sister. And I could live on carbs alone, too, but I don't do Zumba (but should!). Thanks so much for the nomination, it means alot to me :)
