Happy Wednesday Friends! The countdown continues--9 more Wednesdays until Christmas Eve! Today we are revisiting my post on DIY tree flocking. I call my version frosting...
I wanted to upgrade my rather tired looking artificial tree and noticed that the trees I was drawn to in the stores had a light flocking or frosted appearance. I wondered the best way to DIY it--I was hesitant to use spray snow or flocking because it constantly crumbles and sheds. After researching, I decided to combine the two techniques I liked best with spackling and paint.
I arranged my lights on the tree before starting to avoid having to work around my new flocking. I watered down the spackle to a paint like consistency--easy enough to apply, but messy though, so cover your surroundings!
I allowed mine to dry overnight and I am pleased with the results! The upgrade complements my tree without giving it a completely all white appearance.

Hi Cecilia ... that flocking really made the tree look pretty. I have always avoided flocked trees because of the mess, but the way you did this ...no MESS. Thanks for the inspiration. Your tree from last year is beautiful.

Love the look Cecilia! Using speckling is a great idea. A couple years ago I bought a new tree with bits of flocking. Still pretty pricey at Hobby Lobby even half price. Your Secret Garden tree was so pretty! Thanks for sharing with SYC. Can't believe Christmas is so close!!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love flocked trees! I plan to flock two old trees but they will be on the front porch so I don't care if they make a mess. I like the idea of spackling.. I will definitely try it!
