May Flowers: Vibrant Blue Sage

Happy Wednesday Friends! While we didn't have much in the way of April showers in my area, I would still like to share some of my favorite May flowers this month. First in the series is today's feature, Blue Sage.  Its vibrant blue spiked bloom creates a showy display and has brought more than one visitor to my door to inquire its name. It is often mistaken for Bluebonnets and even Lavender.  Once planted it grows like wild, plus it is drought tolerant and is one of the very few plants the deer absolutely will not eat--I promise! 

It is so lovely it has become a favorite backdrop for photo shoots including this one featured in Style Me Pretty...

Hardy Drought Tolerant Plants For Your Spring Garden

Hello Friends!  Here in the Texas Hill Country, we are still having unusually cold weather for the season.  Typically by the time March comes around, I have been out in my garden for weeks but this year our warm weather days seem to be followed by wet, cold ones!  Even so, my garden is beginning to show the first signs of Spring with colorful blooms that defy the otherwise dreary weather. Today I am sharing some of my favorite drought tolerant perennials as well as some colorful hardy container plants for your Spring garden.  

Carolina Jessamine is a pretty vine that stays green most of the year and displays vibrant yellow blooms in Spring. This is a great plant if you are new to gardening and one of the first I planted.

Drying Summer Herbs at Secret Garden Herbs

Greetings Friends! Here in the dry Texas Hill Country with its poor rocky soil and abundance of deer who devour plants that are supposedly deer resistant, herbs have become the foundation of my garden. I can't get enough of these hardy, drought tolerant, mostly deer resistant wonders!  With their wealth of culinary, nutritional and healing benefits I consider them the gardener's best value.
