Happy Monday, Friends! At thrift stores and yard sales, I am always on the lookout for thrifty containers for my plants. Today I'll show you 2 different ways to elevate plain-Jane hanging baskets with cotton crocheted trim

I scored both of these baskets at yard sales and when I decided to hang them together in a bare corner, I crocheted trim to add instant charm.

Here's a quick before and after of the smaller basket:

To create a similar look, you'll need to crochet between the open spaces at the top of your basket. Using half-double crochet stitches, I looped my hook at the bottom of the space, repeating HDC in each space around the entire top of the basket. Depending on how wide you would like your trim, you can repeat a second row of HDC in the previously crocheted row if desired before tying off.

Here's a closer look at the larger basket. If you look closely, you'll see this trim is simply a long chain stitch foundation twisted around each strand of the jute hanger.

Here's a quick before and after:

For this look, start by leaving a yarn tail of a few inches to tie to the basket after finishing. Then simply crochet an ample length of chain stitches to wrap around the different portions of your basket's hanger. I crocheted 200 CS. Before tying off yours, make sure it's long enough to wrap around the hanger and then once again, tie off with extra yarn to secure it to the basket when you're finished.
