Happy Thursday, Friends! It's time for this month's Creative Craft blog hop hosted by Sara from Birdz of a Feather. Do you have any outdoor furniture that needs a little love? Today I'm sharing the much-needed makeover of a favorite retro lawn chair...
If you hopped over after visiting Niki from Life as a Leo Wife, welcome! Here's a quick before and after...
I scored this great metal lawn chair at a yard sale several years ago. I love the retro vibe but the Texas sun hasn't been kind to the paint. If you have outdoor furniture that needs fresh paint, you can use this technique, too. Start by scraping away any flaking paint. Next, use your favorite spray paint to cover the seat and back of the chair. ( I used Rust-Oleum Golden Sunset.) Tip: Spray can trigger gadgets are the best for even coverage!

Last, brush the chair arms and base with a contrasting multipurpose craft paint. Tip: I find this quicker than attempting to tape the freshly painted parts of the chair and spray painting the unpainted portions. (I've used this multipurpose paint on previous outdoor projects and found it to be durable.)
Such a great transformation! I looked at buying four new chairs like this at the beginning of Summer and the were super expensive. Now I'll be on the hunt for some thrifted ones to give a little facelift too. Thanks for sharing, your chair is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, stunning Cecilia! The before and after transformation is like night and day and so cheerful! Great tip on the arms. I'm curious to know how your new paint job it stands up over time in the Texas sun :)
ReplyDeleteWow Cecilia, it looks brand new! Paint is magical stuff, and I've never used a trigger spray attachment, perfect for getting a professional result, I've got to try that, thanks!

Such a beautiful transformation Cecilia! Love the color you picked out for the chair. Looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh my, Cecilia, what a difference painting the lawn chair made! It looks gorgeous now and perfect for any outdoor setting! What a great find!
ReplyDeleteI want some of these chairs so badly but so far haven't been able to snag any in my area. Love that you rescued one and made it look stunning.
ReplyDeleteThat is super cute. I love the bright yellow!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great upcycle! You did an amazing job getting rid of the old paint and rust. You can't see any uneven areas where the old paint was, and I know how hard that is to do! I'm definitely going to get a spray paint trigger. My hand kept cramping up while working on my project and I was wondering if that would help. Seeing your project makes that a big yes for me!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun color! I have always loved these chairs and keep hoping I'll find one, so I can have a sunny addition to my patio, too!!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness!!! this is a fantastic transformation!!!
ReplyDeleteI love those old retro lawn chairs. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteAwesome job! I want to see a bumblebee or sunflower pillow in it next! My grandparents had OLD chairs like that when I was a kid (and I'm 70 now!). The rounded front legs lets us rock them a little! It was a big deal to us!
ReplyDeleteI love the color you painted your very cool retro lawn chairs!
