Frosty February Ice Storm

Happy Monday, Friends! Here in the Texas Hill Country, we are currently in the middle of a winter storm with record breaking lows and more ice and colder temps to come. Although I have some concerns, I couldn't resist snapping a few images of the beautiful frosted trees...

...but since my long driveway and walkways are so slick with ice,  I captured them from the safety of my doorways. According to the forecast, we will be in the worst of the storm by the time you read this. I am requesting prayers that we don't experience any power outages. (Thank you in advance!)

I know many of you have already been dealing with severe storms up north, and you have been in my prayers.

While we often joke about everything closing down if there are any snow flurries or ice patches in Texas, if the temps drop to below zero as expected, it will be our coldest weather since 1989. Since that was just before we moved to Kerrville and it was slightly warmer in San Antonio, it could be my coldest Texas winter E-V-E-R!

The weight of the ice on the trees has already caused some large branches to break off. I don't mind hunkering down and staying indoors, but after last May's storm damage to my car, home, and garden, I am praying for God's protection.

I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

  1. Hi Cecelia - We are experiencing much the same kind of weather here in Maryland. On Saturday we had freezing rain as well. Although beautiful on trees, it is treacherous to get around in. I am a cold weather person, I love fall into winter. I love a beautiful snow, but the ice is tough. Stay well and keep warm. Terry

  2. Cecilia, hoping your power has stayed and that you fair through this. I know TX is definitely not used to this weather. We are in an ice storm right now also. Several businesses are closing (medical, industrial....). Banks and state offices were already closed for the holiday. Be safe.

  3. OH my! Yes, the ice looks pretty but it is so dangerous. Praying for all those affected by these horrible winter storms. So far here in Maryland, we have just had snow with a light glazing. More to come here late in the week. My brother is in San Antonio. Definitely not used to those really cold temps.

  5. Have had TX in my thots and prayers today. Hope you have not lost power. Here in Maine, it is supposed to start after midnight...there goes my dental appt. Tues.! I have a gas stovetop so I can still cook, woodstove in the cellar but not much wood. Hurricane lamps are not just ornamental here! In'98 we had the ice storm of the century--11 days with no power! Kent, OH trucks fixed our lines! Looked like remnants of a nuclear war and cracking branches sounded like rifle shots. It was scarey. Tree fell on my house--ripped the window screen but didn't break the window and missed the skylight. Insurance paid for the residing and $1000 of debris removal; I had my handiman cut up fallen trees for firewood! Win-win! If it doesn't happen for another 100 years, it'll be soon enough for me!

  6. Hi! Sending you love and prayers from Georgia! Prayers for your power to stay on and for no damage. We are floating away here in Georgia! So much rain. Some people starting to have trouble with flushing and so forth. Stay warm and safe.

  7. Hi Cecilia,

Ice is beautiful but can cause many dangerous problems.

I know you're not used these types of temperatures either.

We are getting an ice storm in NJ tonight. I think it's remnants from your storm.

    Stay safe

    Cindy

  8. Been thinking about you as I hear all the weather reports from around the country. Really hope the worst has passed by now for you. We've had over two feet of snow these past two weeks and probably another foot or so tonight. Wind chill advisory to -20. Spring can not come soon enough! Stay safe. xo Kathleen

  9. Oh gosh, I've been following the weather in your neck of the woods and it's crazy. My friends' kids were actually building snowmen. I hope you're all safe, snow is bad, but cold and ice is worse...and dangerous (although beautiful in your photos). Hopefully, it'll warm up soon and your sunny weather will be back!!

  10. We got hit hard and had a lot of damage to trees. The fence also suffered. We were without power for 3 days and were so cold as an all electric home. I am with fiancé as my home is still w/o electric power.
    Did get some unique photos.

  11. Ice storms have a unique beauty - and an interesting sound when the wind blows. Lots of snow here in Wisconsin, see my link...
