Making Memories in Colorado

Happy Monday, Friends! This month I spent some much needed family time in Colorado. This has been the longest span between visits, and after rescheduling several times due to the pandemic, my girls joked that we weathered wildfires and a snow storm in the midst of a pandemic to finally get together! Let me tell you, it was such a sweet time and special visit, and  today I want to share the highlights from my trip with you...

Colorado in October

I began my visit with Youngest Daughter's family. One of the reasons that I postponed my visit several times and then bumped up my rescheduled trip from Thanksgiving to October was to take extra precautions due to Sweet Son-in-Law's heart condition. Since YD and DF live in different cities, I spent several days with each daughter and was blessed with two special birthday celebrations. Ginger Grand even baked my birthday cake all by himself!

I was cooked for and pampered all week, and they treated me to delicious Greek take-out from their favorite restaurant for an early birthday dinner.

On Friday, Ginger Grand started his fall break from remote learning and we went to Youngest Daughter's favorite nursery, The Flower Bin. She propagates cactus and succulent plant babies for her Etsy shop, and it's easy to see why she favors this charming shop.

Youngest Daughter's favorite holiday is Halloween, and they go all out with their decorations. She thoughtfully saved some seasonal fun for our visit. Ginger Grand and I hung paper bats, and we all decorated Halloween donuts together. I enjoyed being there to buy GG's Ironman costume, and check out their giant spider and web at the top of the stairs!

The forecasted snow storm arrived several hours before predicted, which made for a scary drive to meet Dear Firstborn. Thankfully, Sweet Son-in-Law got me there and made the trip back home safely despite a major accident on I-25. It was my first time to see DF's lovely new home...

...and meet her partner EL in person, who happens to be an amazing chef!

I was treated to tasty homemade pumpkin pancakes with blueberries for breakfast by Dear Firstborn, followed by a gourmet dinner of salmon, quinoa salad, and tempura cauliflower by EL! From fresh hydrangeas to a balloon bouquet and thoughtful gifts, once again I was pampered. Despite nearly 18 inches of snow, we stayed warm binge-watching by the fire and enjoyed pumpkin cheesecake and a dark chocolate espresso birthday cake during my visit.

On the day before I left, we took a drive to beautiful Horsetooth Mountain. The snow really helped with the air quality that had previously been smoky and hazy from nearby wildfires.

Don't they make a cute couple?!

Thanks again to my thoughtful Colorado family for such a memorable visit. I feel refreshed and optimistic about the upcoming holidays!

  2. I was probably in Colorado at the same time, though I was in Denver.... being from the South, I enjoyed our snow day on Sunday - it didn't affect my travel back home on Monday either. .... glad you had a great time...I did too. cmberry@lsu.edu
