Egg-cellent Easter Upcycles: Friday's Find #333

Good Friday Greetings to you! As we continue to ride out the pandemic, Easter may be a quieter celebration this year, but I still want to honor the holiday. As I reflect on Christ's resurrection, I am grateful despite the uncertainty of what lies ahead. In the spirit of new beginnings, today I'm sharing an Easter upcycle crafted from thrifted finds I scored at the beginning of last month, before we were staying at home...

During my early March thrifting jaunt, I had a feeling that it might be my last for awhile, so I went to several stores. I came home with quite a haul and have spaced out my finds to share with you these last several weeks. Although the egg topiary had seen better days, I knew it just needed a little love. I also scored a bag full of plastic eggs.

I used the same paint for both projects. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how shades of blue, aqua, and robin's egg vary! Here are two colors I used. While the colors appear very similar in the bottles, the Cloudless shade dries noticeably darker, as you can see from my painted egg samples. I like the way they complement each other, and I'll display them long past Easter.

I used the same colors to paint some of the eggs on the topiary. I used China Blue to paint all of the green eggs, and Cloudless to paint the yellow ones. Have you ever used a toothbrush to spatter paint? It's the perfect tool for achieving speckled eggs.

The flaws aren't quite as visible in the before photos, so I've pointed them out below.

Here, you can see the dollar store supplies I used from my craft stash to refresh the topiary. This was my first time to use the spray adhesive I found at Dollar Tree, and it works pretty well, especially for adding fresh moss to the bare spots.

  2. Cecelia,

This a great project, pretty too. It's amazing how colors of paint are different isn't it?

Thanks for sharing. A different Easter but have a Happy Easter 🐣

  3. I love those colors! And I have to remember to save my toothbrush so I can use it for splattering paint!

  4. Lovely upcycle; I much prefer your soft pastels. I love "robin's egg blue." My bathroom is painted several shades lighter and even contains a picture of a robin's nest with eggs. I recently made a simple floral arrangement with turquoise eggs--very springy! Happy Easter!
