Hi there, Friends! I always enjoy adding a few seasonal accents and it's especially nice to craft something new that can be used for more than one season. This romantic peony heart wreath can be created for Valentine's Day and hung through spring or even summer. Plus it was crafted with dollar store supplies for under $5!
I found my supplies at Dollar Tree but I realize not all stores carry the same stock so I've included links at the bottom of the post. Start with a wire heart wreath. Mine is 11.5" x 13".
You'll also need floral stems. For this wreath, I used three stems of peonies. Would you be surprised that I didn't need any glue or wire to attach them? In the beginning, I'd planned to glue them but as I arranged the flowers on top of the wreath, I struggled to keep them from flattening or falling to one side. Then I realized I could slide the petals under the wire, allowing the plastic backing to hold them--kind of like earring backs. Here's how: Gently remove the flowers from the stems, but keeping the green backs on. Attach the flowers one at a time as described above. Stagger the placement so that some are in the middle with some on either side. Since they aren't glued, you can still slide them as needed to achieve the best arrangement. It's easier than it sounds--it took less than thirty minutes to finish and the flowers have remained intact.
Interestingly, this project wasn't planned. Recently I removed the lovely peonies I used for Juliet's blooming spring dress so she could be decked out as the Snow Queen for winter. After rearranging them in front of my vintage chalkboard, and loving the look, I made a note to pick up some more peonies from Dollar Tree next time they were in stock. Since I wasn't able to find more after I initially bought them last spring, I've now made it a habit to grab them when they are available and so it was when I was unpacking my shopping bag that inspiration struck for this lovely wreath!
To create a romantic valentine vignette, I hung it inside the large vintage frame in my living room.

Since I hadn't replaced the vintage plates that were hanging there before Christmas, I simply added some Scrabble tiles to the arrow underneath. I used Tacky adhesive so they can be removed easily when desired.

pretty!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute way to make a wreath!
ReplyDeleteI love heart shaped wreathes, especially floral, year round. This would be lovely in a bedroom using colors of the room. I love how you will be easily able to reuse the wreathe form and the flowers for another usage although I think I'd be tempted to just hot glue them on!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! Perfect for Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteI finally found some peonies at my local Dollar Tree. Thank you for sharing your wreath at Snickerdoodle.
DeleteBeautiful. My dollar store doesn’t usually have the good stuff, but I did just grab some flowers.
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great! It's very pretty and I like that it didn't cost a lot.
