Dollar Store Decal Thrifty Sign Upcycle

Happy Wednesday, Friends! Today I'm sharing the simple upcycle of a thrifted sign that I updated with a dollar store find...

Remember this little gem? In spite of the dated art, underneath I saw potential in the pretty shaped solid wood sign.

The original image was pretty much cemented to the surface, but since it was very smooth I took a chance and after roughing up the edges by sanding slightly, painted right on top of the 70s art. I gave it two coats of the green paint that was leftover from my kitchen door upcycle. I originally chose the color because it put me in mind of an inviting green garden gate. In fact, I used a similar shade for my own garden entry.

Do you ever shop the wall decal section at Dollar Tree? The selection is constantly changing and I like to browse it occasionally for craft ideas. I found this Home Sweet Home decal awhile back and had been waiting to use it for just the right project...

....and I found it! The decal was easy to apply, smooth and reposition as needed. I hung it right next to my newly updated front door. The area is partially covered but since it is outdoors, I've kept on eye on the decal to see if it bubbled or loosened. It's been a little over a month and weathered some pretty heavy thunderstorms and so far, so good!

  5. Loved how you positioned it on the board shape, which is just perfect. You better just ask where the decals are, every store has them in a different area and different quantities.
