DIY Reclaimed Door Fireplace Upcycle

Hi there, Friends! Are you enjoying a relaxing weekend? We had lovely weather so I went to an estate sale and several yard sales. I often share seasonal mantel displays but today I wanted to show you a recent upcycle I gave my faux fireplace.

Years ago, I found this electric fireplace minus the firebox heating part on clearance and have treasured it ever since. Our winters are mild, so it's used strictly for decorative purposes and I often fill the hearth with candles. I love the contrast of the stark white against the vibrant turquoise accent wall and year round it provides a cozy focal point. However, I've been wanting to add some type of architectural detail to the back to give it a more cohesive look. I wasn't sure exactly how this would come about, but I've kept measurements on my phone and have been on the lookout. Perseverance paid off and when I discovered this  salvaged door piece that was the right size, I couldn't wait to try out my idea.

Because the door piece is free standing, there was no need to attach it, I simply turned it on its side and placed at the back of the fireplace. When I first added it, I wondered if my vision had been overly optimistic. As much as I love the original paint color and distressing, I knew I would need to paint it all white to achieve the desired look. Here you can see the before and after. Just as I imagined, it was much better painted white.

Now it looks more like an original part of the house that has always been here, which is exactly what I was going for.

  12. What a great idea to use a salvaged door as an insert! Although I love the distressed door, it does look a lot better all white. I bet you will be doing something wonderful with it for the holidays.
