Garden Therapy!

Happy Wednesday Friends! I read somewhere that an overcast day is a gardener's friend.  I couldn't agree more and this one is timed perfectly! It has been exactly two weeks since my house was turned upside down by a burst kitchen hose and the after effects of flooding.  The insurance adjuster has come and gone, and the house is pretty much back together with the exception of the damage to my original concrete floors.  As I waited for bids for the repair, I found myself getting antsy--nothing a little garden therapy couldn't cure...

Vintage lawn chairs

The fresh air minus the usual humidity was just what I needed and I soon felt inspired to arrange a little garden vignette. I have a fondness for signs and hadn't seen this particular expression before so I was happy to find it on clearance at a local nursery.  I have two of these vintage lawn chairs and they are surprisingly comfy.  I loved the pale yellow when I picked them up from a yard sale a few years ago but since then, they have faded and needed a good cleaning and some fresh paint.

BEFORE lawn chair makeover

It has been on my "to do" list since spring and wouldn't you know I finally got around to it the day before my flooding issue! Cleaning and sanding them helped...

...but I knew I'd be happier if they had fresh paint. I used paint that I originally purchased for my oven The bright green that arrived looked nothing like the online photo! It didn't work for the oven but was perfect for the chairs. They have been waiting patiently for me, arms taped until today! What do you think?

  2. Perfect color for garden chairs!!! We had a couple of nice days last week too.... I do like being outside early in the morning. I wander around and water stuff and deadhead other stuff....
Then, unfortunately, I have to go to work!! Puts a serious crimp in my wandering around!! However, it does fund more of the thrifting and road trips :^)
    Blessings to you,
    J

  3. Love that green color on the chairs Cecilia. They should not fade as quickly as the yellow, although, I love yellow in the yard. I love working in the yard and garden, but not on these hot, muggy days. I did cut back the blue sage last night and found some fresh ones starting to bloom. Thanks for your advice to cut them back. Anxious to see what you are gonna show us Friday.
    Hugs,
    Audrey

  4. Beautiful job! Love the colors!! I have garden clogs like your boots too. ;) Love that hat - it's all so pretty. I could sit there with my iced tea and be one happy Gal. Blessings Cecilia! xo

  5. Those chairs look so cheerful, Cecilia! I wish I were good at gardening, but I'm afraid I'm too "prissy" for the dirt, bugs, humidity, etc, haha.

  8. My grandparents had chairs like that on their front porch! They are so comfortable! I loved them.
Love, love, love the bright green. Goes perfectly with your new garden sign. Gardening is great therapy. Not sure why I don't employ it more often. (Oh wait, yes I do. I have too many projects going at one time. Lol)

  9. I just love that green in the garden and the sign is so cute! I find my gardening is usually rushed before the sun is too hot! Looking forward to cooler days in the garden.

  10. Absolutely! Getting out in the fresh air and gardening does wonders for my attitude and outlook - especially when things aren't going so well.
I'm sorry to hear about your water challenge. We struggle with water leaks at our house pretty regularly and it is very frustrating. We wonder sometimes if there's even anywhere else that COULD leak! I think just about every pipe has had its turn already.
Glad to hear things are going better for you and that you had time to enjoy a project that you had long wanted to get to. Your chairs turned out great and I love your sign!

  11. Cecilia, the chairs turned out awesome! I have a pair of my grandma's from the early 1950s and they are due for some new paint. My grandma used to paint them after they started to fade. I think that green is just right! Dianne

  12. I LOVE this color. I haven't spent much time in the yard this summer, it's been so hot and the drought hasn't helped. Thanks so much for sharing your updated chairs at VIParty.
