Happy Wednesday, Friends! Over the weekend I picked up a vintage basket at one of my favorite thrift stores. I really love deep baskets for pretty storage especially those with lids, which are harder to come by. All it needed was a little love...

Here's a closer peek at how it looked when I brought it home. It was in really good condition, just dull and faded. I decided to keep the existing pale red band near the bottom...

...so I taped those sections before painting it.

White spray paint always works wonders!

Once it dried, I got out some Yesteryear chalk paint I received from DecoArt. Isn't it a great color?

I received free product as a DecoArt Blogger. See full disclosure here. |
I added a gray band above the taped red sections--two thin coats.

What do you think? I love how the white and gray paint accentuate the red band.

Your basket looks fabulous! It had great "bones" and your transformation made it such a pretty piece! :) ~Rhonda
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference! Funny but the red band looks pink in the before picture. I really like the grey accent with the red. Nice basket and now it looks brand new!

Wonderful storage basket. Love the way you updated it too. It is always a good thrifting day when you find a basket with a lid.
ReplyDeleteWhat an improvement on this great basket, Cecilia!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of one of my favorite sing songs a Tisket a Tasket...a little ditty to stick in your head! Happy National Thrift Shop Day! Kari

ReplyDeleteVery fabulous!! I have seen those baskets while thrifting and they are usually a real mess. You found a great one and the painting made it even better.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing better in life right now for me than white paint either spray or brush on. Your basket looks much happier now LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I see baskets at the thrift store all the time and it has never dawned on me to paint them!!
ReplyDeleteSuch an unusually sized and shaped basket, Cecilia--great find and lovely makeover. I do like the gray and red stripes :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and unique shape to that basket. I must admit, I don't refurbish a lot of things...so I hadn't thought how you could freshen up a basket! Nice tip!
