Happy Monday, Friends! Today I'm sharing my latest mantel in celebration of Thanksgiving--one of my favorite holidays which often seems to get overlooked in the rush after Halloween to prepare for Christmas. Last week, I received some birthday money from my mom, and since it had been several months since I made the 45 minute drive to San Antonio, I decided to treat myself. One of the items on my list was finding some pretty faux eucalyptus. I rarely see it in my small rural town--fresh or faux--so I was happy to find just what I had in mind at Hobby Lobby 50% off. Yay! Next, on a whim, I took a deep breath and headed into Kirklands.
True confession: Even though I love their merchandise, I rarely visit the store because the overpowering air freshener packets they carry literally give me a headache. In all honesty, it was a quick visit as I held my breath for most of it, but I was thrilled to score a few finds for 75% off--including this gorgeous sign. It's perfect framed by the vintage architectural ironwork pieces I scored at a yard sale.
The next bargain I found was the perfect sized green pumpkin I had been holding out for due to our warm temperatures. After looking at several stores where the pumpkins were either picked through or starting to go bad after being stored outdoors in the heat, I decided to go by Home Depot. They probably had a total of twelve pumpkins left, but those they had were stored indoors, were the pretty Cinderella variety, and were marked buy one, get two free--just my kind of bargain! They were marked $10.98 which I was happy to pay for three, but they rang up as $4.33 for all three! (The other two are larger and are on my front porch--one orange and one white.)
I arranged my bargain Cinderella pumpkin in the center of the mantel with the mini striped pair I already had, and my new eucalyptus. Last, I switched the wheat and lavender in my French farmhouse pots to limelight hydrangeas. Here's a peek at the mantel through the chandy. I love that print! I too have so much trouble going into stores with strong scents. Love the simple but lovely effect you have created. Can't wait to see your table.
ReplyDeleteThe print seems to be one that could be used in spring, summer and fall. That's a bargain when you can use it in multiple seasons. I know what you're saying about Kirkland's overpowering smells. My husband sits outside and won't step a foot into the store.
ReplyDeleteAwe...I love it all and that sign...How beautiful! I have problems at times going into stores with heavy smells. I will never forget being out of town and stopping by a Walmart, because you know you can't go anywhere without stopping by a Walmart....anyway, we went in through the garden department. Oh my! As soon as I walked in the door the smell of Cinnamon was so heavy and loud that my I began to sneeze, then cough and well....I had to quickly get out of that department! It was just too much. ReplyDeleteThat sign was worth the trip...and the breath holding! I get it, I can't do smells either. My lungs revolt immediately. it's a shame because there are so many cute shops I can't enter, but it is what it is. Enjoy your beautiful Thanksgiving view!!
ReplyDeleteI love your vignette; your treasures just go so well with the picture. I, personally, LOVE smells in stores, but have several friends with allergies. When I put something fragranced in my booth, it is ALWAYS in plastic for those who are bothered. You'd think stores would wise up; they lose a lot of custom with their inconsiderateness (Is that a word?).
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this. My mantel has been neglected since I tend to use it for my blog photo shoots these days. You never know what you'll find on it. I had to laugh when I saw you mention Kirkland's. I had never even stepped into one until about 6 weeks ago. Seems I can't get out of that store without buying something! I've learned that they do have awesome "sales" and you can really get some nice stuff at really reduced prices. I'll have to put one of my Kirkland fall signs on Instagram, I keep meaning to......I also picked up a framed laurel wreath sign at Big Lots that says Gather in the middle, very similar to yours -- great minds:) I also got a very large wood frame and enamel sign from Kirkland's for a fabulous price. I'm saving it for after the holidays. What would we do without seasonal vignettes lol? xo Kathleen
