Important Notes Regarding GDPR and What the Heck That Is!

Hi there, Friends! Some of you may have been hearing about GDPR--if you're like me, maybe way too much! Honestly, I just want to make pretty things and share them with you. ;) However, If you ever leave comments on my blog, this could be important for you, so please keep reading!  {More pretty things coming tomorrow--I promise!}

Blog updates and privacy policy

If you're not familiar with the term GDPR, it stands for General Data Protection Regulation  and in a nutshell it has to do with European Union laws about privacy and data protection that legally US websites also must follow as of May 25. Though I've taken steps to comply, I've purposely not mentioned it, because I thought I could handle everything behind the scenes. However, it's come to my attention that there are some new issues regarding the commenting section of my blog--even though I made absolutely zero changes--which could affect you. First of all, please be aware, that I am not collecting any additional information than I have been for the last 5 years--mainly if you subscribe by email or leave comments on my blog. You can read my updated privacy policy, here.

So... about the issues regarding my blog comment section. As of Friday, I stopped receiving my usual email notifications when I receive a comment on a post. If you commented and I didn't respond, that's why. In 5 years, this has never happened and as of yet, I haven't been able to find a setting to change to correct the problem. Evidently, I'm not the only one having the issue as I've seen it mentioned in Facebook groups. For the time being, I will reply to comments on my blog posts. If you do comment, please make sure not to check the little box that says "notify me," if you don't want follow up emails. If you do, I don't have a way to edit it from my end. One reader complained about receiving multiple emails, which I hate, but have no control over :(

Blog updates

I should also clarify, though these may not seem specifically GDPR related, I believe they are glitches resulting from the new policies Google (and the Blogger platform I use) implemented to comply with GDPR. Confused yet? See why I prefer to just make pretty things? I hope that you'll continue to leave comments because I really do appreciate the feedback. In the meantime, please be patient with me as I endeavor to correct any issues. Thank you, Friends! Tomorrow, I'll be sharing features from the Spring Tea link party plus the winner of the Amazon gift card!

  1. Your meme is the best one I've seen yet, Cecilia. And good luck with getting your comment notifications. Mine stopped last September and previous fixes (it happened another year) aren't working, and neither is the Google tech team able to troubleshoot it effectively for me. Please keep me posted if you find a solution. I know I've missed comments too.
    I also added a privacy policy, and made a couple changes to html code for gdpr's sake that I think may have messed up my email subscription as well as analytics, so I changed [the latter] back to my original code. What a mess.
    I hope your Happy Memorial Day is delightful.

    1. Thank you,Rita. After I wrote this post I saw quite a few comments in Google forums about similar issues. I remember you mentioned not being able to correct the comment issue. It is frustrating but hopefully it will work out soon. Have a lovely day!

  2. I'm still confused, but as long as I keep getting your posts, I don't care! Personally, my identity ain't worth stealing...and if it was, could I get to be somebody else (preferably blonde, petite, and blue-eyed? Does that tell you I'm tall, gray haired (well, brunette this week), and chunky? Thanx for all the work you do to keep us posted (pun intended!)

  4. Hang in there, this thing is biting us all. Although on Wordpress I don't have the same issues with commenting emails, I have still had to create the privacy policy page and be sure I am in compliance.

    1. Thanks, Carole. I've been determined not to be carried away with all of the hype I've been seeing, but it's difficult to communicate some of the glitches that are beyond my control.

  5. Cecilia, feel your pain. I've tried to comply with a disclosure and a privacy policy and some changes regarding comments in Jetpack. Its all been so confusing.

    1. Hi Cecilia, I've missed you! I just saw that you've been at the farm, which is kind of what I figured. I'd miss your blog, but I do get it--especially when you have that beautiful studio beckoning ;)
