Repurposed Ceiling Medallion Whimsical Mushroom Wreath

Hi there, Friends! It's time for this month's Creative Craft blog hop hosted by Sara at Birdz of a Feather. Today I'll show you how to repurpose a ceiling medallion to create a wreath. I've decorated mine with whimsical mushroom art I received as gifts

When I spied this large ceiling medallion at a yard sale, I knew it would make a perfect wreath.

Dear Firstborn gave me the beautiful cross-stitched mushroom pictured in the first photo for Christmas. Then recently, my mom sent me these sweet mushroom paintings she made in the 70s. I treasure handmade gifts, so what better way to showcase them than on a pretty wreath? Whether you want to display similar cherished gifts or decide to raid your craft stash to decorate your own ceiling medallion wreath, here's a list of suggested supplies:

Various mushrooms or preferred decorations

Hot glue gun or preferred adhesive

Ready to make your own? Start by tying burlap ribbon through the center of the medallion. Allow enough for hanging and finishing with a bow. Next, use fishing line to attach the smaller mossy wreath to the center of the medallion. (TIP: Look here to craft a DIY moss-covered wreath!)

Then, arrange the mushrooms, art, and decorations and attach with hot glue or preferred adhesive. Last, add finishing touches like bits of moss or floral accents. (TIPS: My pink and green mushrooms are upcycled Dollar Tree finds. Also, I used removable TACKY adhesive to apply moss to the corners of the paintings.) Now it's ready to hang!

  8. Loved the ceiling medallion. I would dry brush it with different colors over the years; I love the French Provincial gold on white and a gray/white/stone combo and especially a verdigris with turquoise, black, and copper! The mushroom gifts are great and what an original way to display them!

  9. Very pretty! I like the idea that you incorporated your treasured items into your medallion wreath. The moss and cross stitch mushroom would look good even on it's own as a second wreath.
