Repurposed Hanging Bed Spring Planter

Happy Monday, Friends! Today I'm sharing a fun way to repurpose bed springs to create a whimsical hanging planter...

Several years ago, I scored crib bed springs from Canton, when I visited with Cecilia B. I have been using it as a trellis but decided to update it.  I brought it from the back garden to the front and hung a fun sign on it.

Since the dark color blended in with the greenery, I dry-brushed it with some pale green paint I had on hand.

Next, I added moss and succulents--both from the Dollar Tree. Eventually, I would like to fill in the planter with fresh succulents, but currently the local selection is limited and more than I want to pay.

If you decide to use fresh, you can achieve the same look by adding a layer of soil with the moss. To hold the succulents, I stuffed as much moss as the springs would hold. I also embellished my sign with some tiny rustic garden tools I had in my craft stash.

You can see there is plenty of room to grow when I am ready to add fresh succulents or other plants.

  1. I thought those succulents were real at first! They are pricey at our Walmart to me! I was given one as a gift at a recent baby shower and I have it in a new pot. Hope it lives. LOL! Never have grown them before. The springs look adorable sitting up against the backdrop of the greenery. GIRL.............You make inspire me! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  2. I just love this! The details you added to it are great! Have been eyeing curbside mattresses but had been resisting temptation so far! I want a baby crib frame to hang stuff on in my booth but hate to "destroy" a usable crib! I agree about the price of succulents; we need friends to have plant swaps with!
