How to Craft Velvet Mushrooms (That Smell Like Christmas!)

Happy Thursday, Friends! It's time for this month's Creative Craft blog hop hosted by Sara at Birdz of a Feather! Today I'll show you how to craft velvet mushrooms with a natural homemade-for-the-holidays scent. Take a closer look at the mushroom stems...

If you hopped over after visiting Gail at Purple Hues and Me, welcome! I have enjoyed my handmade velvet pumpkins so much that I decided to create more velvet decor for the holidays. I decided on fancy mushrooms, partly because I hadn't seen any others. Of course as soon as I scheduled my post, I saw two different Instagram accounts sharing their versions. What can I say--great minds think alike! I am quite proud of my unique cinnamon stems. I love the juxtaposition of the luxurious velvet and rustic cinnamon sticks and the natural fragrance is just right. Ready to make your own?

Here's what you'll need:

Velvet circles (I used a saucer as a pattern)
(Click these links for gray,  aqua or  blush velvet.)
Cinnamon sticks* hot glue gun*batting or fiber stuffing

Start by stitching, gathering, and lightly stuffing the velvet circles. Then cut different lengths of cinnamon sticks and glue them together in bundles of three. Last use a glue gun to attach the cinnamon stems to the mushroom caps. Voila! Now they're perfect for tucking into a Thanksgiving centerpiece or hanging on the Christmas tree! (TIP: Want to arrange your mushrooms in a standing position? Use a little TACKY on the bottom of the stems.)

  5. These are too cute for words! How pretty for a "woodland" themed tree or in a vignette! When I bring out old ornaments with cinnamon that need "refreshing," I run an emery board or piece of sandpaper over them a few times; works great!
